PakWheels Auto Show is a series of annual auto shows organized by PakWheels for the automobile enthusiasts of Pakistan. The initiative was started in 2011 from Lahore. [1] [2] and since then PakWheels has been organizing these shows in different cities of Pakistan in an effort to create awareness about the automobile industry and encourage automotive culture in the country.

History

2011

Lahore

Owing to the stagnant automobile industry in Pakistan and lack of auto shows in the country, PakWheels took the initiative to arrange an auto show in its home city Lahore on Pakistan Day in 2011 to promote the automotive culture and to provide a platform for the automotive enthusiasts to gather, discuss and showcase their rides at the center of the city. The show featured many exotics, tuners and luxury sports cars. The show was a hit and it was the biggest gathering of car enthusiasts in the city. [3]

2012

Lahore

After getting an overwhelming response from the first auto show, PakWheels organized another auto show the following year on 25 March in collaboration with TDCP. [4] The show was attended by thousands of people including car lovers. The Lahore Auto Show 2012 was also supported by the Government of Punjab. Government support leveled the playing field for PakWheels to start a series of similar auto shows all around the country.

Islamabad

In November 2012, PakWheels took its auto show from Lahore to the Capital of Pakistan and arranged the biggest gathering of automobile lovers of the city. [5] The show had a display of more than 500 exclusive cars and it was attended by thousands of people. [6] The Islamabad Auto show was the first auto show which PakWheels organized outside its home city.

2013

Lahore

The 2013 Lahore Auto Show was bigger and better than the shows of preceding years. [7] With the support from Government and TDCP, [8] PakWheels managed to turn what started as an enthusiasts' gathering into official auto show [9] of the city. The 2013 Lahore Auto Show not only featured tuners or exotics, but also featured vintage and timeless classics from 1950s and 1960s era.

Karachi

In September 2013, PakWheels brought its signature event to the City of Lights. The Karachi Auto Show 2013 [10] was the first auto show of this scale in Karachi. The highlights of the show include new cars from the automakers of the country, vintage cars, imported exotic and tuner cars, superbikes and a special Ferrari 2012 Formula 1 model car [11] [12]

Islamabad

The Islamabad Auto Show 2013 was organized as a two-day auto festival [13] which had a display of cars as well as a Go Kart Racing competition to increase the awareness about motorsports in Pakistan as well as to discourage illegal street racing in the country. The number of people attending this event increased ten folds [14] compared to the auto show from last year.

2014

Lahore

The Lahore Auto Show 2014 was held on March 16 at Liberty Roundabout. The 2014 Auto Show was dedicated to creating awareness and raising funds for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Peshawar. [15] The show was attended by many renowned celebrities, government officials and enthusiasts for the love of cars and for the noble cause. [16]

Karachi

Karachi Auto Show 2014 was held at the Karachi Expo Center [17] where all the major exhibitions are held. The number of people who visited the show quadrupled from the previous year owing to the increasing popularity of these shows in Pakistan. The show was a major success and was attended by major automotive celebrities of Pakistan [18] including Nadir Magsi, Nadeem Khan, Ronnie Patel and Mohsin Ikram.

Islamabad

On November 23, 2014 PakWheels organized the 3rd Annual Auto Show of Islamabad. [19] The event had a participation of hundreds of cars and thousands of people.[ citation needed ] Each year the show gets bigger and better with more participation and involvement of the local auto community of the city.

2015

Multan

PakWheels' aim for 2015 is to bring the autoshow to more cities of Pakistan and the year started with a new city. On February 8, 2015, PakWheels arranged the first ever autoshow in the city of Multan. [20] [21] The show was the first of its show that the city of Multan has ever witnessed and it was attended by senior political figures and automobiles celebrities of Pakistan.

Lahore

On March 23, 2015 PakWheels arranged the 2nd show of 2015 and the 5th Annual Auto Show of Lahore [22] which was attended by a large crowd who came to see the numerous exotic cars and bikes in real life. The show also featured a life size replica of Shell Formula 1 car specially brought in from Italy. A number of celebrity car enthusiasts such as superstar Ali Zafar also visited the show. The show concluded at the day end with a closing award ceremony in which the founder of PakWheels handed over shields and appreciated the volunteers of the show.

It is the first mid-size Suzuki automobile sold in the Australian market. In February 2011, the Kizashi became available to the Indian market. The car was also available in European markets.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Automotive industry in Pakistan</span>

The automotive industry in Pakistan is one of fastest-growing industries in the country, growing by 171% between 2014 and 2018. It accounts for 7% of Pakistan's GDP and employed a workforce of over 6.8 million people as of 2024. Pakistan is the 15th largest producer of automobiles. Its contribution to the national exchequer is nearly US$5.4 billion. Pakistan's auto market is among the fastest growing in Asia. 384,000 cars were sold in 2023. In the 1990s and early 2000s, Pakistan had many Japanese cars. With the launch of the first Auto Policy in 2005, Pakistan launched its first indigenous car, Adam Revo. However, after the 2008 elections, the dollar started depreciating, and due to bad governance, many automakers began to halt production, with some exiting Pakistan. Currently, the auto market is dominated by Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and Suzuki. However, on 19 March 2016, Pakistan passed a second "Auto Policy 2016-21," which offers tax incentives to new automakers to establish manufacturing plants in the country. In response, Renault, Nissan, Proton Holdings, Kia, SsangYong, Volkswagen, FAW, and Hyundai have expressed interest in entering the Pakistani market. MG JW Automobile Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Morris Garages (MG) Motor UK Limited, owned by SAIC Motor, to bring electric vehicles to Pakistan. NLC signed an agreement with Mercedes-Benz to manufacture Mercedes Actros trucks in Pakistan. Pakistan has not enforced any automotive safety standards or model upgrade policies. A few older vehicle models, including the Bolan and Ravi, continue to be sold by Suzuki. On 8 July 2021, Jolta Electric launched the production of electric motorcycles.

Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools & Colleges is a chain of private international educational institutes under the umbrella of Turkish Maarif Foundation. Established in 2018, for the promotion of literacy in Pakistan, Pak-Turk Maarif has 27 branches in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Khairpur, Multan, Jamshoro, Peshawar, Hyderabad and Quetta, with a total student population of more than 13000. Before 2018, the school was called Pak-Turk International Schools and was not under the umbrella of the Turkish Maarif Foundation.

PakWheels is a Pakistani online marketplace for car shoppers and sellers based in Lahore. It aggregates thousands of new, used, and certified second-hand cars from thousands of dealers and private sellers. The site also provides users with automotive reviews, shopping advice, and comparison tools for car financing and insurance information. It serves as an online community of automobile enthusiasts, with over 600,000 registered members on its online forum. PakWheels was founded in July 2003 in Karachi by Muhammad Hanif Bhatti. It was bought by Raza Saeed and Suneel Munj in 2007.

Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line is one of four main railway lines in Pakistan, operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line starts from Kiamari station in the province of Sindh and ends at Peshawar Cantonment Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The total length of the line is 1,687 kilometers (1,048 mi), with 173 railway stations from Kiamari to Peshawar Cantonment. The line serves as the main passenger and freight line of the country. 75% of the country's cargo and passenger traffic uses the line. The line will undergo a six-year 6.8 billion USD upgrade and renovation as part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, with the average speed expected to be doubled to 140 kilometers per hour upon completion. The railway track is dual between Keamari and Shahdara Bagh, Chaklala and Golra Sharif.

The Pakistan Auto Show is a motor show held annually in Pakistan, alternating between Karachi and Lahore. The motor show began in 2005 and displays both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. The PAS is organized by the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers.

2022 Pakistan Super League was the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. Played between six teams in a double round robin format with strict COVID-19 protocols, the league began on 27 January 2022 with the first phase taking place in Karachi. The second phase including the playoffs took place in Lahore, with the Final played on 27 February where Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans by 42 runs to win their maiden PSL title.
