Panchak (transl. Quintet) is a 2024 Indian Marathi language comedy drama film written and directed by Rahul Awate and Jayant Jathar and produced by Madhuri Dixit Nene along with her husband, Dr. Shriram Nene, under RnM Moving Pictures. [3] The film features an ensemble cast of Adinath Kothare, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Bharati Achrekar, Anand Ingale, Tejashri Pradhan, Satish Alekar, Nandita Patkar, Sampada Kulkarni and Deepti Devi. [4] The story revolves around a family with a fear of superstition and death. [5]

Production

The film was announced by Dixit on 10 October 2019 along with the Mahurat shoot. [10] [11] This marked her second production in Marathi films after 15th August. [12] Panchak is shot in Konkan, Maharashtra. Kothare revealed that he was not the first choice for the part, but Dixit chose him. [13]

Soundtrack

The lyrics are written by Guru Thakur and the music is composed by Mangesh Dhakde.[ citation needed ]

Release and reception

Panchak had its premiere at 21st Pune International Film Festival on 5 February 2023, where it received standing ovation from the audience. [14] [15] [16] The official title poster and the release date were released by the makers in the mid-October. [17] The teaser was released on 1 December 2023, [18] subsequently, the trailer was released on 12 December 2023. [19] The trailer garnered a great response from the audience, and Bollywood stars Kajol, Riteish Deshmukh, Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, and others praised it. [20]

Nandini Ramnath from Scroll.in wrote "Dilip Prabhavalkar mercifully lingers on even after his passing in the form of flashbacks. The rest of the cast perform efficiently, with Nandita Patkar noteworthy as the easily susceptible Kaveri". [21] Reshma Raikwar from Loksatta says "Due to the depiction in Konkan and the humorous arrangement, the movie 'Panchak' feels good, but the thought that it could have been made better with all these forces does not remain in the mind". [22] Mihir Bhanage from The Times of India wrote "The comedy track of Shobhraj and Bullet Prakash is excellent. Vijay Kaundinya shows signs of becoming a villain of the future. Music by Saikarthik has good tunes. Venus Murthy’s cinematography is a treat". [23] Devendra Jadhav from Sakal wrote "The first to mention is Dilip Prabhavalkar. Dilipkak has done a great job despite playing a very small role. Their demeanor makes the atmosphere pleasant". [24]

Adinath Kothare is an Indian actor, producer, and director, who predominantly works in Marathi films. His directorial debut film, 'Paani,' won the 'National Film Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation' at the 66th National Film Awards and also won him the 'Best Actor' award at the New York Indian Film Festival. His father, Mahesh Kothare, is a veteran film director of Marathi films.

Pradhan also did voice-overs for a mobile application named Go-stories which features various Marathi stories. She has also appeared in a YouTube video Uncomfortable and been a speaker at TED Talks.

Zapatlela is a 1993 Indian Marathi-language horror comedy film directed and produced by Mahesh Kothare. Released in Maharashtra on 16 April 1993, the film stars an ensemble cast of Mahesh Kothare, Laxmikant Berde, Kishori Ambiye, Pooja Pawar, Madhu Kambikar, Ravindra Berde, Jairam Kulkarni, Vijay Chavan, Raghavendra Kadkol, Bipin Varti and Dilip Prabhavalkar in a cameo appearance as well as the voiceover for the puppet Tatya Vinchu. The practical effects involving the puppet Tatya Vinchu in the film were created by Ramdas Padhye, a ventriloquist and puppeteer, and the film was followed by a sequel Zapatlela 2 released 20 years later in 2013 in 3D format. The film is dubbed in Hindi as Khilona Bana Khalnayak.

Aata Vel Zaali is a 2024 Marathi-language psychological drama film written and directed by Ananth Mahadevan and produced by Dinesh Bansal, G. K. Agrawal, and Ananth Mahadevan under Imagine Entertainment and Media, and Ananth Mahadevan Films. The film stars Dilip Prabhavalkar and Rohini Hattangadi in the lead roles. The story of the film is inspired by real-life characters and a true incident, which explores the controversial topic of active euthanasia.
