The Pune International Film Festival (also known as PIFF) is an annual film festival held in Pune, a city in Maharashtra, India. Open to general public, the films are screened at NFAI, Inox, City Pride, PVR cinema halls, all located in Pune city.

Dr Jabbar Patel is the chairman and director of the festival.

The festival commences on the second Thursday and concludes on the third Thursday of January. First Edition of PIFF was started in year 2002 [1] and has been running annually except for 2004.

Latest PIFF was concluded on 16 January 2020 in its 18th edition. The theme of year was '60 Years of Foundation of Maharashtra'. [2] It celebrated the centenary year of legends - Federico Fellini, Kaifi Azmi, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Shamshad Begum, and Pandit Ravi Shankar. It also paid tribute to late Dr Sriram Lagoo.

Sant Tukaram Best International Marathi Film Award winners

Since 2006, the Government of Maharashtra started awarding the best film in the Marathi competition section at the festival. An international jury watches the competing Marathi films to decide the winner. The award is named after the Marathi film Sant Tukaram, the first Indian entry to be screened at the 5th Venice International Film Festival.

Prabhat International Award Winners

Tannishtha Chatterjee is an Indian actress and director who is known for her work in several Hindi and English independent films. For her performance in the film Dekh Indian Circus, she won the National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention . In 2019 she directed her first feature film Roam Rome Mein which screened at Toronto International Film Festival. Chatterjee's performance in the German film Shadows of Time earned her critical acclaim. It took her to international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival.

Tingya is a 2008 Marathi-language movie. It is the directorial début of Mangesh Hadawale. The movie is based on a life of a rural boy and his love and friendship with his bull. It concentrates on the hardships faced by the farmers in the state of Maharashtra, India. Tingya was screened at the Pune International Film Festival where it won the Sant Tukaram award for Best Marathi Feature Film. It also won the best film award at Mumbai Academy of Movies Images on 14 March 2008. Child artist who played the role of the rural boy won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for the year 2008.

<i>Baboo Band Baaja</i> 2012 Indian film

Baboo Band Baaja is a Marathi film directed by debutante Rajesh Pinjani and produced by Nita Jadhav. The film tells the riveting tale of a father reluctant to educate his son, a mother who fiercely believes in its liberatory value, and the son who is caught in the crossfire. It stars Milind Shinde, Mitalee Jagtap Varadkar and Vivek Chabukswar in the lead roles. The film received three National Film Awards, including for Best Actress and Best Debut Film of a Director, and six Maharashtra State Film Awards.

Vishnupant Govind Damle was an Indian production designer, cinematographer, film director and sound engineer for Marathi films. His 1937 film Sant Tukaram was the first Indian film to be screened at an international film festival. It won a "Special Recommendation" at the 5th Venice International Film Festival.

Paresh Mokashi is an Indian filmmaker, producer, actor and Theatre director-producer; working predominantly in Marathi cinema and Marathi theatre. He started working as a backstage worker for theatre and did few minor roles for plays as well as films. Mokashi made his directorial debut for theatre with the Marathi play, Sangeet Debuchya Mulee in 1999. He continued to work for theatre and made his directorial debut for cinema with the 2009 Marathi feature film, Harishchandrachi Factory. The film depicts the making of India's first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra (1913), made by Dadasaheb Phalke. The film was acclaimed critically and won several awards. It was also selected as India's official entry to 82nd Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Jitendra Joshi is an Indian actor and reality show host who predominantly works in Marathi cinema. He is well known for his lead role as Sant Tukaram Maharaj in the 2012 marathi movie Tukaram. He starred as constable Katekar in the hit Netflix television series Sacred Games.

Vishnupant Damle : The Unsung Hero Of Talkies Is a national award-winning docudrama about life of Shri Vishnupant Damle – one of the founder members of the legendary Prabhat Film Company. V G Damle started his journey as a poor village boy and became a remarkable personality in the film history of India. In the early 19th century, he has worked as an art director, cameraman, sound recordist, producer and director, for many acclaimed films.

Amol Gole is an Indian cinematographer who shot Hindi films like Stanley Ka Dabba, Hawaa Hawaai, Elizabeth Ekadashi, Touring Talkies, Investment etc. He debuted as an Independent cinematographer with the film Stanley Ka Dabba directed by Amol Gupte. As cinematographer Amol used a still DSLR camera, Canon's 7D, to make sure the kids could be themselves, free and feckless and open to constant improvisation. The results are striking, a film that feels both stunningly real and yet beautifully textured, color-corrected immaculately enough to look markedly un-digital on the big screen. Besides feature films, he has also shot many ad films, documentaries and short films.

<i>Halal</i> (film) 2016 film by Shivaji Lotan Patil

Halal is 2017 Marathi language social drama film, directed by national award-winning director Shivaji Lotan Patil and produced by Amol Kagne, Laxman Kagne under the banner of Amol Kagne Productions. It is their first film, and it deals with the theme of loyalty, love and the institution of marriage that is deemed to be pious by the society. Portraying the family system of Indian Muslims, the film depicts human emotions, and the trials and the tribulations that women in our society go through. The film features Chinmay Mandlekar, Priyadarshan Jadhav, Pritam Kagne and Vijay Chavan in pivotal roles.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sumitra Bhave–Sunil Sukthankar</span> Indian filmmaker duo

Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar were an Indian filmmaker duo working predominantly in Marathi cinema and Marathi theatre. Bhave and Sukthankar had made seventeen feature films, more than fifty short films, and four TV serials; all of which had been written by Bhave. Sunil Sukthankar, a Film and Television Institute of India graduate (1989) is also an actor and a lyricist. He has written more than 90 songs for their own films as well as various other Marathi and Hindi films. The duo had won various national and international accolades for the films Doghi (1995), Dahavi Fa (2002), Vastupurush (2002), Devrai (2004), Astu (2016) and Kaasav (2017). At the 64th National Film Awards, their feature film Kaasav won the prestigious President Golden Lotus National Award.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kshitij Patwardhan</span>

Kshitij Patwardhan is an Indian screenwriter, theatre director, playwright, and lyricist. He received Filmfare award for best screenplay in 2018, Filmfare award for best lyrics in 2020, along with the prestigious Tarun Tejankit award 2019. He is also the recipient of multiple Maharashtra State Awards, Zee Gaurav Puraskar, MIFTA and Star Pravah Ratna for his outstanding contribution to Marathi cinema.

Makarand Mane is a Marathi film director best known for Ringan. He is associated with many National Award winning films.
