Pangambam Nilakomol Singh is regarded as "the first Olympian of Manipur (India)". [1] He represented India at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in field hockey. [2] He was born on 1 March 1955 at Moirangkhom Bokulmakhong, Imphal. Son of the late P. Babu Singh and Ibeton Devi. He graduated in 1981, from Imphal College. He started playing hockey from early childhood. He was selected to represent Manipur State in the Senior National Hockey Championship held at Hyderabad in 1979. He had also played for Manipur State Junior Hockey Team in the National Junior Hockey Championship held at Jabalpur (1980), Kolhapur (1981) and Meerut (1982).[ citation needed ]
He represented India in the Indo-Pak Hockey Test Match series, held at Pakistan and India in 1982 and was adjudged the best player. He became a regular playing member of the Indian National Junior Hockey Team which played test matches at Spain, France and West Germany in 1982. He played for Indian Senior National Hockey Team in the Essanda International Hockey Tournament held at Melbourne in December 1982. He also played for India in the Pentengular International Hockey Tournament held at Kuala-lumpur and 4 Nations International Hockey Tournament held at West Berlin in 1983. He represented Indian National Hockey Team in the 23rd World Summer Olympics held at Los Angeles in July and August 1984. He also played the 6th World Cup held in London 1986 and the Xth Asian Games 1986 held in Seoul.[ citation needed ]
In recognition of his distinguished service in the development of sports in the North East, he has been nominated to represent the North Eastern Region as a member of the Governing body and the General body of the Sports Authority of India.[ citation needed ]
Major Dhyan Chand was an Indian field hockey player, widely regarded as one of the greatest field hockey players in history. He was known for his extraordinary ball control and goal-scoring feats, in addition to earning three Olympic gold medals, in 1928, 1932 and 1936, during an era where India dominated field hockey. His influence extended beyond these victories, as India won the field hockey event in seven out of eight Olympics from 1928 to 1964.

Roop SinghBais was an Indian hockey player. He was part of the Indian field hockey team, which won gold medals for India at the 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games. He was the younger brother of Dhyan Chand.

Prithipal Singh was an Indian field hockey player who played as a halfback. He was a member of the India national team that won a gold medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and silver and bronze at the 1960 Rome Olympics and bronze at the 1968 Mexico Olympics respectively.
Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh is an Indian field hockey player, who represented India at the Olympics and Asian Games. He played as a left-winger and was known for his speed and stamina. Today he coaches the Imphal Rangers, hockey team.

Sandra Pisani OAM was an Australian field hockey player who played 85 international games for Australia and was the captain from 1985 to 1987. She competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and was part of the team that won Australia's first Olympic gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
Devendro Singh Laishram, also known as Devendro Singh or Devendro Laishram, is an Indian boxer from Imphal West district, Manipur who competes in the light-flyweight division. Devendro represented India at the 2012 Summer Olympics and lost out in the quarter-finals in a tough bout against the eventual bronze medalist Irish boxer Paddy Barnes. Devendro qualified for the Olympics after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku. In 2013 Devendro won the silver medal at the Asian Confederation Boxing Championship. In August 2014 he won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He competed against Paddy Barnes, who was representing Northern Ireland and settled for a Silver medal.
