Patrick Jenkins is a Canadian artist, animator and documentary filmmaker living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, who specializes in paint-on-glass animation, a form of stop motion animation.
Patrick Jenkins studied Visual Art at York University in Toronto, earning a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A) in Drawing and Filmmaking. [1] After graduating, he made experimental films and exhibited his drawings in galleries in Toronto. He started making independent animated films in the 1985 and created and published his own flipbooks. He was approached by Kids Can Press to write and illustrate an instructional book to show children how to make flipbooks. The resulting book Flipbook Animation and Other Ways to Make Cartoons Move was published in 1991. The Addison Wesley Publishing Company also published this book in the U.S. with the title Animation. Portuguese and French language editions were also released.
In 2008 he created Labyrinth, a short animated, surrealistic detective movie. In 2012 he followed it up with Sorceress, a mythological adventure story. Both films were done using paint-on-glass animation.
An independent filmmaker, he scripts, directs and animates his own films. His animated films have been shown at film festivals around the world including The Ottawa International Animation Festival, the London International Animation Festival and the Melbourne International Animation Festival. His documentaries on artists have been shown on Bravo! Television Canada and CBC Television.
His recent film Tara’s Dream won both Second Prize and Best Animation Prize at the 2010 Toronto Urban Film Festival. [2] His film Amoeba won first prize at the 2010 Toronto Animated Image Society Showcase. His film Inner View (2009), an animated homage to the art of Canadian artist Kazuo Nakamura was an Official Selection of Animafest Zagreb, Croatia in 2010. His film Labyrinth (2008), [3] a surreal detective story, won 1st place in the Independent, 6 to 30 Minutes Category, at the 2009 Kalamazoo Animation Festival International (KAFI) and 3rd Prize for animation at the 2010 Be Film Festival in New York City [4] and was included in the DVD the Best of the London International Animation Festival 2009. His documentaries, Of Lines And Men: The Animation Of Jonathan Amitay and Death Is In Trouble Now: The Sculptures Of Mark Adair premiered on Bravo! Television in October 2007. His film The Skateboarder premiered at the 2005 Montreal World Film Festival and was shown at the 2005 Ottawa International Animation Festival and the prestigious 2006 Annecy International Animation Film Festival (Festival International du Film d'Animation d'Annecy) in Annecy, France. His documentary film RALPH: Coffee, Jazz and Poetry, The Poetry of Ralph Alfonso premiered at the 2001 Montreal World Film Festival and was broadcast on CBC Television's Canadian Reflections and Bravo! Television.
William Norman McLaren, LL. D. was a Scottish Canadian animator, director and producer known for his work for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). He was a pioneer in a number of areas of animation and filmmaking, including hand-drawn animation, drawn-on-film animation, visual music, abstract film, pixilation and graphical sound. McLaren was also an artist and printmaker, and explored his interest in dance in his films.

A flip book, flipbook, flicker book, or kineograph is a booklet with a series of images that very gradually change from one page to the next, so that when the pages are viewed in quick succession, the images appear to animate by simulating motion or some other change. Often, flip books are illustrated books for children, but may also be geared toward adults and employ a series of photographs rather than drawings. Flip books are not always separate books, but may appear as an added feature in ordinary books or magazines, frequently using the page corners. Software packages and websites are also available that convert digital video files into custom-made flip books.
Ryan is a 2004 short animated documentary film created and directed by Chris Landreth about Canadian animator Ryan Larkin, who had lived on skid row in Montreal as a result of drug and alcohol abuse. Landreth's chance meeting with Larkin in 2000 inspired him to develop the film, which took 18 months to complete. It was co-produced by Copper Heart Entertainment and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), and its creation and development is the subject of the NFB documentary Alter Egos. The film incorporated material from archive sources, particularly Larkin's works at the NFB.

World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb, also known as Animafest Zagreb, is a film festival entirely dedicated to animated film held annually in Zagreb, Croatia. Initiated by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), the event was established in 1972. Animafest is the second oldest animation festival in the World, after the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

Pro and Con is a 1993 9 minute 16mm short animated film produced, directed and animated by Joanna Priestley and Joan Gratz using drawings on paper, pixillated hands and object animation. The "Pro" section of the film was written by Barbara Carnegie and Joanna Priestley and narrated by Lt. Janice Inman. The "Con" section was written by Jeff Green and narrated by Allen Nause. The sound was designed and produced by Lance Limbocker and Chel White with music by Chel White. Pro and Con was commissioned through the Metropolitan Arts Commission's Percent for Art Program in Multnomah County, Oregon.
Lipsett Diaries is a 2010 short animated documentary about the life and art of collage filmmaker Arthur Lipsett, animated and directed by Theodore Ushev and written by Chris Robinson. The 14-minute film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal, where Lipsett had worked from 1958 to 1972, before committing suicide in 1986. The film is narrated by Xavier Dolan.

Estonian animation tradition dates back to the 1930s when the first experimental films were made. The only surviving short film from the era is Kutsu-Juku seiklusi (1931). After the Great Depression, World War II, and Soviet Occupation interrupted its development, Estonian animation was reborn in 1958. Elbert Tuganov founded a puppet film division Nukufilm in Tallinnfilm Studio. The first film was titled Peetrikese unenägu based on a Danish writer Jens Sigsgaard's children story Palle alene i verden. Joonisfilm an 2D and 3D animation division of Tallinnfilm was founded by Rein Raamat in 1971. Films like Põld (1978), nominee for Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 1979; Lend (1973), the winner of Special Jury Award at the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Films; the Suur Tõll (1980), 2nd place at Ottawa International Animation Festival in 1982 and Põrgu (Hell) (1983), the winner of FIPRESCI Prize and Special Jury Award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival made Raamat the first internationally recognized Estonian animation director.
Geraldine is a 2000 French animated short film, directed by Arthur de Pins, while he was attending Arts Decos'. Critical reception has been positive, and the film has been honored in multiple festivals. The story follows a former man who must adjust to her new life after inexplicably waking up one morning as a woman. In 2004, the film was released on a DVD compilation of French animated short films.
Le Building is a 2005 French animated short film directed by a team of final year students at Gobelins, l'École de l'image. The story depicts a series of slapstick accidents that cause destruction to a three-story apartment complex. Le Building's team of five directors is composed of Pierre Perifel and Olivier Staphylas, both of whom went on to become Annie Award-recognized animators at DreamWorks, Xavier Ramonède and Annie award-nominated Marco Nguyen, who have continued their careers with animation credits on various high-profile French productions, and Rémi Zaarour, who has since become a comic book artist, published under the pseudonym Pozla.
Missed Aches is a 2009 16mm short 2D animated film directed, produced and animated by Joanna Priestley. It was narrated by Taylor Mali and is based on his poem “The Impotence of Proofreading”, with sound design by Normand Roger and Pierre Yves Drapeau, music by Pierre Yves Drapeau with Denis Chartrand and Normand Roger, text animation by Brian Kinkley, character design and animation by Don Flores and storyboards by Dan Schaeffer.
Nahuel and the Magic Book is a 2020 Chilean-Brazilian animated fantasy-adventure coming-of-age film produced by Carburadores, co-produced by Chilean Punkrobot Studios and Brazilian Levante Films and directed by Germán Acuña Delgadillo. This is the first animated feature that was made in Chile in collaboration with Brazil and this is the first Chilean-Brazilian 2D animated film that entered the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France on June 15, 2020 and in Chile on January 20, 2022.
Black Slide is a 2021 Israeli/British animated short film directed by Uri Lotan. The 11-minute short has been presented in a number of film festivals, including the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and the Indy Shorts Film Festival. Black Slide also won the Audience award for Best Short Film at the 2022 British Animation Awards and is now qualified for the 95th Academy Awards in the eligible films under the category Best Animated Short Film.
