Paul Colin Rowe is a New Zealand-born Australian former swimmer of the 1970s and 1980s.
Born in New Zealand, Rowe won national titles in his native country for butterfly and freestyle. He represented New Zealand at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, coming fourth in the 100 metre butterfly. [1]
Rowe came to Australia in 1979 for training in the lead up to the 1980 Moscow Olympics, where he had been due to swim for the New Zealand delegation. New Zealand ended up boycotting the games and in 1981 he became a naturalised Australian. At the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, he was a member of the Australian gold medal-winning 4 × 200 m freestyle relay team, as well as a silver medalist in the 200 metre butterfly. [2] [3]
In 1986, Rowe retired from competitive swimming and made a switch to water polo. [4]
Rowe is a cousin of swimmer Mark Treffers and uncle of swimmer Ben Treffers. [5]
Lisbeth Constance Trickett, is an Australian retired competitive swimmer. She was a gold medallist at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the world record holder in the short-course (25m) 100-metre freestyle.

Alicia Jayne Coutts, is an Australian competitive medley, butterfly and freestyle swimmer. She represented Australia at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She was a Swimming Australia National Training Centre scholarship holder and was coached by John Fowlie. Her haul of five medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics matches fellow Australians Ian Thorpe and Shane Gould in one single Olympics, and trails only Emma McKeon’s seven.
Teigan Van Roosmalen is an Australian Paralympic S13 swimmer. She has Usher Syndrome type 1 legally blind and Profoundly deaf. She had a swimming scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport 2009-2012. Her events are the 100 m breaststroke, 200 m individual medley, 50 m and 100 m freestyle. She competed at the 2011 Para Pan Pacific Championships in Edmonton, where she won a gold medal in the S13 400 freestyle event. She competed at the 2008 Summer and 2012 Summer Paralympics.
Benjamin Treffers is an Australian competitive swimmer who has participated in the FINA World Championships and Commonwealth Games. Treffers is a former Australian Record Holder and Commonwealth Champion in the 50m backstroke event. Treffers also won the title of 2012 Australian Champion in the 50m backstroke event and is trained by the Australian Institute of Sport. Coached by John Fowlie, Treffers won the title of 2011 Australian Champion in the Men's 100m Backstroke event and represented Australia at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, having narrowly missed out on a place at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2018, Ben was appointed a brand ambassador for men's active lifestyle wear SQD Athletica. He has blogged about his preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Sir Robert David Garrick Agnew was an Australian competition swimmer and businessman. As a swimmer Agnew represented Australia at the 1948 and 1952 Summer Olympics, as well as the 1950 British Empire Games. After retiring from swimming he entered business, becoming involved in the resources industry in Western Australia.
Emma Jennifer McKeon, is an Australian former competitive swimmer. She is an eight-time world record holder, three current and five former, in relays. Her total career haul of 14 Olympic medals following the 2024 Olympic Games made her Australia's most decorated Olympian and included one gold medal from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, four gold medals from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and one gold medal from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. With four gold and three bronze medals she was the most decorated athlete across all sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and tied for the most medals won by a woman in a single Olympic Games. She also won 20 medals, including five gold medals, at the World Aquatics Championships; and a record 20 medals, including 14 gold, at the Commonwealth Games.
Benjamin Proud is an English competitive swimmer, representing Great Britain at the Olympic Games, the FINA World Aquatics Championships and LEN European Aquatics Championships, and England at the Commonwealth Games. Proud specialises in sprint freestyle and butterfly races, specifically the 50-metre distance in both. He is the 2022 World Champion in the 50 metre freestyle, his second long course world title. He is the 2017 world champion in the 50-metre butterfly. He is only the third male swimmer to be simultaneously short-course and long-course World Champion at 50 metre freestyle, after César Cielo and Florent Manaudou.
Kyle Chalmers, is an Australian competitive swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 100 metre freestyle, 4×100 metre medley relay, and long course 4×100 metre mixed freestyle relay. He is the Oceanian and Australian record holder in the short course 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre freestyle.
Helena Gasson is a New Zealand Olympic swimmer representing her country at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. She has also competed internationally at the 2015 World University Games, the 2017 World Swimming Championships and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Helena is currently part of the Coast Swim Club Elite Team and the LA Current in the ISL.

Penny McCarthy is a New Zealand swimmer. She won the silver medal in the women's 100 metres butterfly representing her country at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, recording a time of 1:02.27, and finishing 0.35 s behind the winner, Wendy Quirk from Canada. She also competed in the 200 metres butterfly at those games, but finished ninth in the heats and did not progress further.
Melanie Anne Jones is a former New Zealand swimmer. She won a bronze medal competing for her country at the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
