Paul C. Spedero Jr. (born 1968) [1] is a United States Navy rear admiral and naval aviator who has served as the vice director for operations of the Joint Staff since June 2023. [2] He most recently served as the commander of Carrier Strike Group 8 from May 31, 2022 to June 1, 2023. [3] [4] He most recently served as commander of the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command from July 9, 2021 to May 23, 2022, [5] and prior to that as director for fleet integrated readiness and analysis on the staff of the United States Fleet Forces Command. Spedero's command tours include serving as commanding officer of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) from November 2015 to August 2018, commanding officer of USS Peleliu (LHA-5) from December 2013 to its decommissioning in April 2015 and commander of the “Sidewinders” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA)-86. A native of Springfield, Massachusetts, Spedero earned his commission from the NROTC program in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1990 with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, and was designated a naval aviator in 1992. He earned an M.A. degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, an M.S. degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, and a degree in French from the Defense Language Institute. In February 2023, he was nominated for promotion to rear admiral. [14]

After his navy career, Macke served as a vice president of Wheat International Communications Corporation.
Strike Fighter Squadron 143 (VFA-143), also known as the "Pukin Dogs," is a United States Navy strike fighter squadron based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. The Pukin Dogs are an operational fleet squadron and flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet. They are currently attached to Carrier Air Wing One and USS Harry S Truman. William Evans "Bill" Gortney is a retired United States Navy admiral who served as the sixth commander of United States Northern Command and the 23rd commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). He previously served as the Commander, United States Fleet Forces Command from September 14, 2012 to December 2014 and Director of the Joint Staff from July 1, 2010 to August 2012. Prior to that, he served as Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/5th Fleet. The Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic is the aviation Type Commander (TYCOM) for the United States Naval aviation units operating primarily in the Atlantic under United States Fleet Forces Command. Type Commanders are in administrative control (ADCON), and in some cases operational control (OPCON) of certain types of assets assigned to the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets. AIRLANT is responsible for the material readiness, administration, training, and inspection of units/squadrons under their command, and for providing operationally ready air squadrons and aircraft carriers to the fleet.
Commander, Carrier Strike Group 8, abbreviated as CCSG-8 or COMCARSTRKGRU 8, is one of five U.S. Navy carrier strike groups currently assigned to the United States Fleet Forces Command. As of 2018 the group flagship is the Nimitz-class aircraft carrierUSS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). As of 2021, the other units of the group are the guided-missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG-56), Carrier Air Wing One, the ships of Destroyer Squadron 28 as well as the Royal Norwegian Navy's frigate HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen (F310), which joined the strike group for one deployment.
Sara Annette Joyner is a United States Navy officer. She is the first female strike fighter pilot to command a United States Navy fighter squadron and a carrier air wing. Her promotion to rear admiral was authorized by the United States Senate on 25 May 2017. On 24 February, the Secretary of Defence announced that Joyner would be promoted to the rank of rear admiral ; she was pinned on 1 April 2021. She was promoted to vice admiral on 3 June 2022.

He has also commanded Carrier Strike Group 2 with tours as commanding officer of the USS Bulkeley (DDG-84) and USS Monterey (CG-61).
Timothy Jon Kott is a retired United States Navy rear admiral and surface warfare officer who last served as the commander of Navy Region Hawaii from June 18, 2021 to June 17, 2022. Kott was dual-hatted as Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific from June 18, 2021 to June 3, 2022. Before that, he most recently served as commander of Carrier Strike Group 1 from June 25, 2020 to May 28, 2021, and prior to that, as assistant chief of staff for operations of Allied Joint Force Command Naples, his first flag assignment. In earlier command tours, Kott commanded USS Mobile Bay (CG-53) from March 2013 to March 2015 and USS Hopper (DDG-70) from July 2008 to March 2010.
