People of the Year is one of the most prominent awards in India. Constituted by Coca-Cola India, to honor people who have consistently contributed to 'Indian excellence'. Asha Bhosle is an Indian playback singer, entrepreneur, actress and television personality who predominantly works in Indian cinema. Known for her versatility, she has been described in the media as one of the greatest and most influential singers in Hindi cinema. In her career spanning over eight decades she has recorded songs for films and albums in various Indian languages and received several accolades including two National Film Awards, four BFJA Awards, eighteen Maharashtra State Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award and a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, in addition to two Grammy nominations. In 2000, she was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in the field of cinema. In 2008, she was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour of the country. The Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged Bhosle in 2011 as the most recorded artist in music history.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dadasaheb Phalke Award</span> Indias highest cinema award

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in the field of cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their "great and outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema" and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of 1,000,000 (US$13,000).

Jaya Bachchan is an Indian actress and politician. She has served as a member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party. Known for her work in Hindi films, she is noted for reinforcing a natural style of acting in both mainstream and "middle-of-the-road" cinema. A recipient of several accolades, she has won a record nine Filmfare Awards and the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour awarded by the Government of India.

<i>Anand</i> (1971 film) 1971 Indian film

Anand is a 1971 Indian Hindi-language drama film co-written and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, with dialogues written by Gulzar. It stars Rajesh Khanna in the lead role, with a supporting cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Sumita Sanyal, Ramesh Deo and Seema Deo.

Adnan Sami Khan is an Indian singer, musician, music composer, actor and pianist. He performs Indian and Western music, including in Hindi, Urdu, English, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. He has been awarded with Padma Shri for his remarkable contribution in music. His most notable instrument is the piano. He has been credited as "the first musician to have played the santoor and Indian classical music on the piano". A review in the US-based Keyboard magazine described him as the fastest keyboard player in the world and called him the keyboard discovery of the nineties.

<i>Ijaazat</i> 1988 film directed by Gulzar

Ijaazat (transl. Permission) is an 1987 Indian Hindi-language musical romance film directed by Gulzar, based on a Bengali story, Jatugriha by Subodh Ghosh. Starring Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah and Anuradha Patel in leading roles, the film followed the story of couple who are separated and who accidentally meet in a railway station waiting room and discover some truths about their lives without each other. The film belongs to the art-house genre in India known as Parallel Cinema, and won two National Film Awards in the music category. The movie is based on the 1964 Bengali movie Jatugriha.

<i>Trishul</i> (film) 1978 Indian film directed by Yash Chopra

Trishul (transl. Trident) is a 1978 Indian Hindi-language action drama film, directed by Yash Chopra, written by Salim–Javed and produced by Gulshan Rai. It features music by Mohammed Zahur Khayyam, with lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi. The film features an ensemble cast of Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee Gulzar, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Sachin and Waheeda Rehman.

The Limca Book of Records is an annual reference book published in India documenting world records held by Indians. The records are further categorized into education, literature, agriculture, medical science, business, sports, nature, adventure, radio and cinema.

Gulzar is an Indian Urdu poet, lyricist, author, screenwriter, and film director known for his works in Hindi cinema. He is regarded as one of greatest Urdu poets of this era. He started his career with music director S.D. Burman as a lyricist in the 1963 film Bandini and worked with many music directors including R. D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Vishal Bhardwaj and A. R. Rahman. Gulzar also writes poetry, dialogues and scripts. He directed films such as Aandhi and Mausam during the 1970s and the TV series Mirza Ghalib in the 1980s. He also directed Kirdaar in 1993.

"Mera Kuch Samaan" is a Hindi song from the 1987 film Ijaazat, directed by Gulzar, who also wrote the song. The song was composed by R D Burman and sung by Asha Bhosle. In the film, the song takes cue from the poem, Maya leaves behind in letter, for her former lover Mahinder, asking him to return her things. As he read on, he finds they are not physical things she wants back, but memories of times spent together.

<i>Saudagar</i> (1973 film) 1973 Indian film

Saudagar is a 1973 Bollywood drama film, directed by Sudhendu Roy and based on the Bengali story, Ras, by Narendranath Mitra. It stars Nutan as Mahzubeen and Amitabh Bachchan as Moti, in the leading roles. It also featured Trilok Kapoor and Padma Khanna as Phoolbanu. Murad, Leela Mishra as, Dev Kishan, Jugnu and V. Gopal are also featured in the film. Though the film didn't do well commercially, it was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 46th Academy Awards, but didn't receive a nomination.

Amitabh Bachchan Corporation or AB CORP is an Indian entertainment company which is owned by Amitabh Bachchan. It was founded in 1995, it did event-management, film production and distribution work. During 1999 it emerged as fiasco for Bachchan when it went into bankruptcy bringing heavy financial losses to its owner. The company organised the Miss World 1996 competition.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Arunima Sinha</span> Indian mountain climber and sportswoman

Arunima Sinha is an Indian mountaineer and sportswoman. She is the world's first female amputee to scale Mount Everest (Asia), Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Elbrus (Europe), Mount Kosciuszko (Australia), Aconcagua, Denali and Vinson Massif (Antarctica). She is also a seven time Indian volleyball player.
