The Tagus is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula. The river rises in the Montes Universales in mid-eastern Spain, flows 1,007 km (626 mi), generally west with two main south-westward sections, to empty into the Atlantic Ocean near Lisbon. Its drainage basin covers 80,100 square kilometers (30,927 sq mi) – exceeded in the peninsula only by the Douro. The river is highly used. Several dams and diversions supply drinking water to key population centres of central Spain and Portugal; dozens of hydroelectric stations create power. Between dams it follows a very constricted course, but after Almourol, Portugal it has a wide alluvial valley, prone to flooding. Its mouth is a large estuary culminating at the major port, and Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

According to the 2006 census (INE), the municipality had a population of 244 inhabitants. However in 2019 the town has experienced a decrease of inhabitants to 168. The Alberche River which has its source approximately 2 km's west of the town, passes through the lower part of the town before joining the Tagus River just east of Talavera de la Reina.
Talavera de la Reina pottery is a traditional type of faience, or tin-glazed earthenware made in Talavera de la Reina, Toledo (Spain). The area has a long history of pottery, and dishes, jars and other objects have been found in recent archaeological excavations; some of the materials discovered date back to the Roman Empire.

Ricardo de Pedraza Losa is a vision impaired B1/T11 Spanish Paralympic track and field competitor. He represented Spain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, finishing eleventh in the 5,000 meter event. He has held several Spanish national records in long distance events.
Juan de Talavera was a Spanish architect, sculptor and carver, member of the "Toledo School of Architecture", and architect of Queen Isabella I of Castile. Probably his father was also named Juan de Talavera, and he was a nephew of Andrés de Talavera, both working in the Cathedral of Seville circa 1450. Juan de Talavera married Maria Gutierrez, daughter of Egas Coeman or Egas of Brussels and he was probably also a nephew of Juan Guas by his wife.
