The Permanent Representative of Argentina to the United Nations is the official representative of the government of Argentina to the United Nations. [1]

[14] In 1971 France proposed him as Secretary General, obtaining 13 votes out of 15, but was blocked by the veto of the Soviet Union. [14] He ran for office again in 1981, but this time was vetoed by the United Kingdom, France and the Soviet Union. [15]

This made her the first woman in Argentina's history to reach the post of foreign minister. She had previously served as deputy foreign minister from 1987 to 1989, when she became foreign minister and later held other positions in that Ministry. During her diplomatic career, she was also Argentine ambassador to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Canada.

ONUSAL, acronym for the United Nations Observer Mission In El Salvador,, was a peacekeeping mission from July 1991 to April 1995. Created towards the end of the Salvadoran Civil War, the United Nations oversaw the transition to peace between Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and the government of El Salvador. The UN was invited by both parties involved for monitoring the human rights conditions within the country.
