Philip Aksel Frigast Zinckernagel (born 16 December 1994) is a Danish professional footballer who plays for Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire.

Club career

Early career

In March 2018, Zinckernagel joined Eliteserien side FK Bodø/Glimt from SønderjyskE for €200,000. [3]

Zinckernagel scored 19 goals as FK Bodø/Glimt won their first ever top-flight Norwegian title in 2020. [4] He also scored three goals in the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase before losing to Milan in the third qualifying round.

England

On 1 January 2021, Zinckernagel signed for English side Watford on a five-and-a-half-year contract. [5] He scored his first goal for Watford in a 6–0 win against Bristol City on 13 February 2021. [6]

On 7 August 2021, Zinckernagel signed on a season-long loan with EFL Championship side Nottingham Forest. [7] He scored his first goal for the club in a 2–1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on 18 August 2021. [8] On 10 June 2022, Forest announced Zinckernagel would be returning to Watford once his loan expired.

Olympiacos

On 24 June 2022, Zinckernagel joined Greek champions Olympiacos on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. [9] [10] [11]

Zinckernagel made his debut for Olympiacos in a UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie against Israeli side Maccabi Haifa on 20 July 2022. He scored as the match finished in a 1–1 draw. [12]

Zinckernagel joined Belgian side Standard Liège on loan on transfer deadline day after a falling out with Olympiacos manager Carlos Corberán. [13] Corberan himself was later dismissed of his duties as Olympiacos manager on 18 September 2022. [14]

Club Brugge

On 1 August 2023, Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge announced the signing of Zinckernagel on a two-year contract, [15] for a reported fee of €2.5 million. [16] On 17 August 2024, he returned to Bodø/Glimt on loan until the end of 2024. [17]

Chicago Fire

On 6 January 2025, Zinckernagel made the move to Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire on a four-year deal. [18]

The 2020 season was Bodø/Glimt's third season back in the Eliteserien since their relegation at the end of the 2016 season. They finished as champions of the Eliteserien for the first time, and in turn qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, whilst the Norwegian Cup was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Norway. In Europe, Bodø/Glimt reached the Third Qualifying Round of the Europa League where they were knocked out by Milan.

The 2021–22 season was the 97th season in existence of Olympiacos and the club's 63rd consecutive season in the top flight of Greek football. Olympiacos participated in the Greek Super League winning their 47th title, finishing 19 points ahead of PAOK who came second. Olympiacos also participated in this season's Greek Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. During the season Pedro Martins became the longest-serving Piraeus coach in a single term. The season covers the period from July 2021 to late May 2022.

The 2021 season was the club's fourth straight campaign in the Eliteserien since their promotion in 2017. Bodø/Glimt entered the campaign as league champions, winning their first ever Norwegian title in 2020. The start of the season was postponed from 5 April to 8 May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where Glimt first played their local rivals Tromsø on 9 May 2021.

The 2022 EFL Championship play-off final was an association football match which was played on 29 May 2022 at Wembley Stadium, London, England, to determine the third and final team to gain promotion from the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football, to the Premier League. The top two teams of the 2021–22 EFL Championship, Fulham and Bournemouth, gained automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the clubs placed from third to sixth in the table took part in the 2022 English Football League play-offs. Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest competed for the final place in the 2022–23 Premier League season.
