Popatlal Secondary School (PSS) was a co-educational, private, secondary school in the north-eastern Tanzanian city of Tanga. It was one of the oldest schools in the city. [2]

History

The school was established in 1968 and formally opened by President Julius Nyerere, the country's first president.

It was named in the memory of Mr Popatlal Bhanji Laxman, the founder's eldest son, who died in a car accident. Mr. Kulwant Babu Chaudry has been the longest-serving headmaster (1968–2004).

Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete is a Tanzanian politician who was the fourth president of Tanzania, in office from 2005 to 2015. Prior to his election as president, he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2005 under his predecessor, Benjamin Mkapa. He also served as the chairperson of the African Union from 2008–2009 and the chairman of the Southern African Development Community Troika on Peace, Defence and Security from 2012–2013. Kikwete was born and raised in Pwani Region and attended the university of Dar es Salaam.

Shaaban bin Robert, also known as Shaaban Robert, was a Tanzanian poet, author, and essayist who supported the preservation of Tanzanian verse traditions. Robert is celebrated as one of the greatest Tanzanian Swahili thinkers, intellectuals and writers in East Africa and has been called "poet laureate of Swahili" and is also known as the "Father of Swahili." He is also honoured as the national poet.

Pwani Region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The regional capital is the town of Kibaha. According to the 2012 national census, the region had a population of 1,098,668, which was slightly lower than the pre-census projection of 1,110,917. Months after the release of his debut single "Raha", Lyimo was nominated on 2015's Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards (KTMA) as a "New Best Artist".
