The Presidency of Pranab Mukherjee begins on 25 July 2012, [1] [2] when he took oath as the thirteenth President of India.
During his tenure,Mukherjee disposed of 34 mercy pleas. Of these,30 were rejected and 4 were commuted. [3] Among those whose pleas were denied are Ajmal Kasab,Afzal Guru and Yakub Menon. [4] [5]

Pranab Mukherjee was an Indian politician who served as the 13th president of India from 2012 until 2017. He was the first person from West Bengal to hold the post of President of India. In a political career spanning five decades,Mukherjee was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and occupied several ministerial portfolios in the Government of India. Prior to his election as President,Mukherjee was Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012. He was awarded India's highest civilian honour,the Bharat Ratna,in 2019,by his successor as president,Ram Nath Kovind.
The Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) (transl. Tamil State Congress (Moopanar);abbr.TMC(M)) is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded by the former member of parliament of the Republic of India G. K. Moopanar on 29 March 1996 as a breakaway faction from the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
The Seni rebab,also known as the Seniya rabab is a plucked string instrument used in northern India that is said to have been developed by,and to have taken its name from,the notable musician Tansen in the time of the emperor Akbar the Great. It has "a large hook at the back of its head,making it easier for a musician to sling it over the shoulder and play it even while walking." It has been used in Hindustani classical music and religiously,in Sikh music. The rebab influenced the development of the sarod,another Indian musical instrument.
Mohammad Afzal Guru was a Kashmiri terrorist who was convicted for his role in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. He received a death sentence for his involvement,which was upheld by the Indian Supreme Court. Following the rejection of a mercy petition by the President of India,he was executed on 9 February 2013. His body was buried within the precincts of Delhi's Tihar Jail.
The 2001 Indian Parliament attack was a terrorist attack on the Parliament of India in New Delhi,India on 13 December 2001. The attack was carried out by five armed assailants that resulted in the deaths of six Delhi Police personnel,two Parliament Security Service personnel,and a gardener. All the five terrorists were killed by security forces.

Yakub Abdul Razzaq Memon was an Indian terrorist financier convicted of terrorism over his financial involvements in the 1993 Bombay bombings,and the brother of one of the prime suspects in the bombings,Tiger Memon. After his appeals and petitions for clemency were all rejected,he was executed at Nagpur Central Jail on 30 July 2015. Memon financially assisted his brother Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim in planning and executing the bombings. Memon handled Tiger's funds,funded the training of 15 youths who were sent to a secret location to learn handling arms and ammunition,purchased the vehicles used in the bombings,and stockpiled weapons.
Umayalpuram Kasiviswanatha Sivaraman is an Indian musician and exponent of the Carnatic percussion instrument,the mridangam. He is a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan as well as the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

The Rudrapatnam Brothers are an Indian Carnatic vocal duo,consisting of brothers R. N. Thyagarajan and Dr. R. N. Tharanathan. The brothers come from a family of musicians from Rudrapatna village off the Kaveri banks in Arkalgud Thaluk of Hassan district in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka. Vocalist Tiger Varadachariar,on seeing the musical atmosphere there,once claimed that "Rudrapatnam is the Thanjavur of Karnataka". Music,Veda adhyayana,and studying Sanskrit were integral parts of their family tradition.

On 9 February 2016,some students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) held a protest on their campus against the capital punishment meted out to the 2001 Indian Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru,and Kashmiri separatist Maqbool Bhat. The organisers of the event were former members of the Democratic Students' Union (DSU). The event was held despite the university administrations withdrawing permission for the event shortly before it was due to begin,due to protests by members of the student union of ABVP. The event saw clashes between various student groups. A video was circulated by an Indian news channel,Zee News,in which a small group of individuals,whom a later university-investigation described as outsiders to the university wearing masks,shouted "anti-India" slogans.
The Relu Ram Poonia MLA murder case or Poonia murders was a mass murder of the Indian politician Relu Ram Poonia and seven of his family members. The murders were committed by Ram's daughter Sonia,along with her husband Sanjeev Kumar,on the night of 23 August 2001 over a property dispute. The case was filed and Sonia,Sanjeev and various members of his family were tried. The couple were convicted of the murder charges and sentenced to death by the district court. The sentence was reduced to life imprisonment by the Punjab and Haryana High Court but the death sentence was reinstated by the Supreme Court of India. The couple remained in jail during the process when,under the section 72 (1) of the Constitution of India,a mercy petition was raised. The petition went unanswered by then President Pratibha Patil but was rejected by her successor Pranab Mukherjee. However,the couple's death sentence was reverted to life imprisonment after a petition was filed by the civil rights group People’s Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) citing delays in the disposal of the mercy plea as grounds for clemency,which the Supreme Court accepted in January 2014.

He was allegedly involved in the JNU sedition row and is an accused under the UAPA law for Delhi riots. Sangita Iyer is an Indian-born Canadian author,broadcast journalist,writer,biologist and documentary filmmaker. She is known for her advocacy on wildlife conservation,especially for wild elephants,and for exposing the atrocities against Asian elephants by religious institutions. She is the founding executive director and president of the Voice for Asian Elephants Society,which was created in 2016 with the aim of protecting wild and captive elephants of India.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum is a public biographical museum located on the Raisina hill of New Delhi dedicated to the presidents of India from its establishment as a republic to present day. It was established on 25 July 2014 by Pranab Mukherjee,who served as the president of India at the time. As the first underground museum of India,it was opened for the public on 24 July 2016.
