Pushmeet Kohli is one of the leading scientists in the field of Artificial Intelligence and was listed by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in AI. [3] . He holds the position of Vice President of research at Google DeepMind, the leading AI company in the world, where he heads the "Science and Strategic Initiatives Unit". He has led and supervised a number of impactful projects like the development of AlphaFold, a system for predicting the 3D structures of proteins, AlphaMissense - a model for predicting the effect of missense variants in the genome, SynthID - a system for robustly and imperceptibly watermarking and detecting AI generated content to prevent its use for misinformation.
Kohli was educated at National Institute of Technology, Warangal [ citation needed ] and Oxford Brookes University where his PhD awarded in 2007 [4] was supervised by Philip Torr. [2] He was a Postdoctoral fellow at University of Cambridge. [5]
Before joining Google DeepMind, Pushmeet Kohli was partner scientist and director of research at Microsoft Research and a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge. Kohli's research investigates applications of machine learning and computer vision. [1] [6] He has also made contributions in game theory, discrete algorithms and psychometrics. [7]
Other AI for Science projects include
The impact of AlphaFold has seen its leads, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper, being awarded by numerous prizes including 2024 Nobel prize in Chemistry, the Breakthrough prize, Lasker award, and Wolfe prize.
Pushmeet's research in computer vision and machine learning has been recognized by a number of scientific awards and prizes. Some notable ones include:
