Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma [1] [2] [3] (born July 1, 2006), [4] professionally known as Qing Madi, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and dancer. [5] She gained widespread recognition after her 2022 single "See Finish" and its 2023 follow-up, "Ole" (featuring Bnxn), went viral on TikTok; the latter peaked at number one on the Uganda Top 100 Apple Music chart and number three on the Nigeria Top 100 Apple Music chart. Early life

Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma was born and raised in Benin City by her mother, along with her siblings. She is originally from Delta State. [16] Pearl attended Negbenegbor International School in Benin City for her secondary education. She began performing at a young age, participating in school talent shows and singing in her church's adult choir. [17] [18] [19]

Career

On October 14, 2022, Madi released her breakout single "See Finish", which made its breakthrough primarily on TikTok. [14] Sooner, she released three additional singles; [18] gaining her more recognition, and performed at the Homecoming event in Lagos, Nigeria. [20] [21] Qing Madi's music genres has being noted as Afrobeat, Pop, Soul, and R&B. [22] [23]

In 2023, Qing Madi was chosen as the Spotify Africa Equal Ambassador for the month of June. [24] [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] [30] On July 21, 2023, Qing Madi released the single "Ole" featuring Bnxn. The song made entry to multiple Apple Music charts [6] [7] [8] [9] and peaked at number 12 on the TurnTable Top 100. [31] "Ole" made its entry into the Official Afrobeats Chart, peaking at number 16 in August. [32] [33]

In January 2024, alongside OdumoduBlvck, Bloody Civilian, and Tyla, Qing Madi was inducted into the Apple Music's Rising Class of 2024. [34] [35] [36] In an interview with African Folder, Madi revealed she wrote two songs on her debut eponymous project when she was fourteen. [37]

P-Square are a Nigerian music duo composed of the twin brothers Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, who co-write and co-produce most of their songs. He received wider recognition for his 2022 single "Calm Down", which spawned a remix with American singer Selena Gomez that peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and led the United States Afrobeats Songs chart for a record-setting 58 weeks.

Afrobeats is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing majorly out of Nigeria. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.

Qing Madi is the self-titled debut extended play by Nigerian singer-songwriter Qing Madi, released on November 17, 2023, by Jton Music. The EP received generally favorable reviews from critics and peaked at number 14 on the Nigeria Apple Music chart. Qing Madi spawned the hit song "Ole", which charted at number 12 on the TurnTable Top 100.

"Jump" is a song by South African singer Tyla, American rapper Gunna and Jamaican rapper Skillibeng, from Tyla's 2024 self-titled debut album. It was written by the three artists, Ari PenSmith, Mocha, Believve, and its producer Sammy Soso. Fax and Epic Records sent the song to rhythmic radio stations in the United States on 14 May 2024 as the album's fourth single. "Jump" is genre fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall and hip hop with elements of amapiano. In the song, Tyla declares her self-worth and references her hometown Johannesburg.
