Quetta Cantonment is a military cantonment area adjacent to the city of Quetta in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. [1] [2]
Quetta is the capital and largest city of the Pakistani province of Balochistan. It is the tenth largest city in Pakistan, with an estimated population of over 1.5 million in 2024. It is situated in the south-west of the country, lying in a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. Quetta is at an average elevation of 1,680 metres above sea level, making it Pakistan's highest altitude major city. The city is known as the "Fruit Garden of Pakistan" due to the numerous fruit orchards in and around it and the large variety of fresh and dried fruits produced there.
A cantonment is a military quarters. In Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and other parts of South Asia, a cantonment refers to a permanent military station. In United States military parlance, a cantonment is, essentially, "a permanent residential section of a fort or other military installation," such as Fort Cavazos.
The Command and Staff College is the military staff college for the Pakistan Army and its sister services officers, and the international military officers. Established in 1905 as Army Staff College in Deolali, it was later shifted to its present location in 1907 and has been an alma mater of many renowned international soldiers.
Cantonments in Pakistan are permanent military bases of the Pakistan Army, which are administered by Cantonment Boards under the control of the Military Lands & Cantonments Department (ML&C), Ministry of Defence, Government of Pakistan. Cantonments are established under and governed by the Cantonments Act 1924.
Zhob, formerly known as Mandokhail,Fort Sandeman is a city and district headquarters of the Zhob District in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. Zhob is located on the banks of the Zhob river. It lies 337 kilometres away from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.
An earthquake occurred on 31 May 1935 between 2:30 am and 3:40 am at Quetta, Balochistan, British India, close to the border with southern Afghanistan. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 Mw and anywhere between 30,000 and 60,000 people died from the impact. It was recorded as the deadliest earthquake to strike South Asia until 2005. The quake was centred 4 km south-west of Ali Jaan, Balochistan, British India.
Wellington is a cantonment town in the Coonoor sub-Division of Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. One of its most famous residents was Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who died in the town on June 27, 2008. This town is adjacent to the town of Coonoor. Its Postal Index Number is 643231. Wellington is a Class II Cantonment. The administration and upkeep of the Cantonment is undertaken by the Cantonment Executive Officer of the DGDE, Ministry of Defence.

Bolan Mail is a passenger train operated daily by Pakistan Railways between Karachi and Quetta. The trip takes approximately 20 hours 25 minutes to cover a published distance of 916 kilometres (569 mi), running at 45 kilometres per hour (28 mph) & traveling along a stretch of the Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line, Kotri–Attock Railway Line and Rohri–Chaman Railway Line. The train is named after the famous Bolan Pass, a strategically located pass connecting to Central Asia. The train was cancelled after the 2022 floods, but service was restored on 25 December 2023..Currently, the train is running once every 2 days with only one rake. There is an AC dining car on the train.

The trip takes approximately 23 hours and 30 minutes to cover a published distance of 1,225 kilometres (761 mi), traveling along the Rohri–Chaman Railway Line, Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line, Khanewal–Wazirabad Branch Line and the Shahdara Bagh–Sangla Hill Branch Line. Akbar express is the only train which connects Faisalabad with Quetta.
