Radiant is a French comic book series written and illustrated by Tony Valente. It has been published by Ankama since 2013 and has 18 volumes released in French as of December 2023. It was later published by the Japanese publisher Euromanga and Asukashinsha in 2015, making it the first manfra to be published in Japan. The series has been licensed by Viz Media in English since 2018 and has 17 volumes released. The series received an anime television series adaptation by Lerche that aired on NHK Educational TV from October 2018 to February 2019, followed by a second season aired from October 2019 to February 2020.
In the world of "El Pharenos", a race of powerful monsters called Nemeses fall from the sky. This race infects every living thing they touch. Any humans who survive their contact become cursed, but also gain the ability to wield the magic power known as "Fantasia", thus becoming Sorcerers. Some Sorcerers use their powers for their own gain while others choose to become heroes and protect normal humans from the Nemeses. But whether good or evil, all Sorcerers are mostly treated with fear and contempt by the common folk. There is also an organization known as the Inquisition, which is dedicated to the eradication of Sorcerers.
The series follows Seth, a seventeen-year-old boy who has survived a Nemesis attack. He dreams of defeating all of the Nemeses and bringing peace between Sorcerers and the rest of humanity. To do so, he has to find the place where the Nemeses come from, the legendary Radiant, and destroy it. He and other sorcerers travel the region in search of Radiant whilst avoiding the Inquisition.
The Inquisition is based in Bome, the capital of the Estrie Kingdoms, which includes Convictis. Their flagship is the Battle Airship Uranos.
The Baron Merchants are natives of the Pontanian States, known to be business savvy and are technological innovators. They planned to enslave the infected people of Cyfandir.
The series is written and illustrated by French author Tony Valente. He began the publication of Radiant on Ankama Éditions in July 2013 and currently has 18 volumes released. According to an interview that he made in Just Focus at April 2014, Tony says that his inspirations to create Radiant were Fairy Tail , Naruto , and One Piece . [10] It has been published by Viz Media in English since 2018. [11]
The series is published in Japan by Asukashinsha. [12] Additional languages it has been published in are Spanish by LetraBlanka since 2016, [13] German by Pyramond since 2016, [14] Italian by Mangasenpai since 2017, [15] Serbian by Najkula since 2022 [16] and Swedish by Cobolt Förlag since 2022. [17]
NHK announced the series on January 31, 2018. [18] The series was directed by Seiji Kishi and Daisei Fukuoka, and written by Makoto Uezu, with animation done in RETAS software by Nerima-based studio Lerche. [18] [19] Character designs for the series were produced by Nozomi Kawano, while Masato Koda composed the series' music. [2] The opening theme is "Utopia" by 04 Limited Sazabys, [5] while the ending theme is "Radiant" by Polkadot Stingray. [20]
The 21-episode anime series aired on NHK Educational TV from October 6, 2018, to February 23, 2019. [2] [5] It is based on volumes 1 through 4 of the comic. The series is simulcast by Crunchyroll, [21] with Funimation producing an English dub as it aired. [22]
In the season finale, a 21-episode second season has been announced. [23] It premiered on October 2, 2019. [8] The opening theme is "Naraku" by Halo at Yojohan, while the ending theme is "Chitto mo Shiranakatta" by Emi Nakamura. [7]
The series received a French dub, which first aired on Game One in France on September 2, 2019. [24]
The anime began airing on ABC Me in Australia on January 2, 2021. [25]
YuYu Hakusho is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. It tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child's life. After a number of tests presented to him by Koenma, the son of the ruler of the afterlife, Yusuke is revived and appointed the title of "Underworld Detective". With this title he must investigate various cases involving demons and apparitions in the Human World, with the manga gradually becoming more focused on martial arts battles and tournaments as it progresses. Togashi began creating YuYu Hakusho around November 1990, basing the series on his interests in the occult and horror films and an influence of Buddhist mythology.
Black Cat is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kentaro Yabuki. It was originally serialized in publisher Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from July 2000 to June 2004, with the chapters later collected into twenty tankōbon by Shueisha. The story centers on a man named Train Heartnet who withdrew from an elite group of assassins called the Chronos Numbers to become a bounty hunter.
The Cat Returns is a 2002 Japanese anime fantasy film directed by Hiroyuki Morita from a screenplay by Reiko Yoshida, based on the 2002 manga series of the same name by Aoi Hiiragi. It was animated by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten, Nippon Television Network, Hakuhodo, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Mitsubishi and Toho, and distributed by the latter company. It stars Chizuru Ikewaki, Yoshihiko Hakamada, Tetsu Watanabe, Yosuke Saito, Aki Maeda and Tetsurō Tamba. This is Hiroyuki Morita's first and only film as director for Studio Ghibli.
Claymore is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi. It debuted in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Jump in June 2001, where it continued until the magazine was shut down in June 2007. The series was transferred to the newly launched Jump Square, serialized from November 2007 to October 2014. Its chapters were collected in 27 tankōbon volumes.
Mamotte! Lollipop is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Michiyo Kikuta. It was serialized in Kodansha's shōjo manga magazine Nakayoshi between 2002 and 2005.
Dorohedoro is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Q Hayashida. It was serialized in Shogakukan's manga magazines Monthly Ikki, Hibana, and Monthly Shōnen Sunday ; its chapters were collected in 23 tankōbon volumes. Dorohedoro tells the story of the amnesiac reptilian-headed Caiman, working together with his friend Nikaido to recover his memories and survive in a strange and violent world.
Toriko (トリコ) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro. It follows the adventures of Toriko, a Gourmet Hunter, as he searches for rare, diverse foods to complete a full-course meal. On his journey, he is accompanied by a timid chef who wants to improve his skills. Toriko was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from May 2008 to November 2016, with its chapters collected into 43 tankōbon volumes.
Gangsta is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kohske. It has been published in Shinchosha's Monthly Comic @BUNCH magazine since March 2011. The series has inspired a spin-off manga, an audio drama series, an anime television series, and an original novel. The anime series was the last to be produced by animation studio Manglobe before its bankruptcy.
Children of the Whales is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Abi Umeda. The manga is licensed in North America by Viz Media. An anime television series adaptation produced by J.C. Staff aired in Japan from October to December 2017, and was released globally on Netflix in March 2018.
The Royal Tutor is a Japanese manga series by Higasa Akai. It was serialized in Square Enix's shōnen manga magazine Monthly GFantasy from November 2013 to May 2021. It has been collected in seventeen tankōbon volumes as of August 2021. Yen Press has licensed the manga and distribute monthly chapters digitally. An anime television adaptation by Bridge that started from April 4, 2017 to June 20, 2017. A stage play has been announced as well. A new project has been announced. On September 17, 2018, it was announced that a film produced by Tear Studio would be released on February 16, 2019.
RErideD: Derrida, who leaps through time is a Japanese anime television series by director Takuya Satō and illustrator Yoshitoshi Abe. The series aired in Japan from October 3 to December 19, 2018.
Dr. Stone is a Japanese manga series written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by the South Korean artist Boichi. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 2017 to March 2022, with its chapters collected in 27 tankōbon volumes. The story follows Senku Ishigami, a scientific genius who plans to rebuild civilization after humanity was mysteriously petrified for 3,700 years.
Midnight Occult Civil Servants was a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yōko Tamotsu. The manga has inspired a novelization by Masumi Suzuki, and an anime television series adaptation by Liden Films aired from April 7 to June 23, 2019. The anime series is licensed in North America under a Crunchyroll-Funimation partnership. The series follows Arata Miyako, a newly recruited staff member of the Shinjuku Ward Nocturnal Community Relations Division (NCRD) who possesses the "Ears of Sand", giving him the ability to understand the languages of supernatural creatures called the Anothers. His main role with the Shinjuku Ward NCRD is to maintain relations with the Anothers.
No Guns Life is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tasuku Karasuma. It was serialized in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump from September 2014 to September 2021, with its chapters collected in thirteen tankōbon volumes.
Dropout Idol Fruit Tart is a Japanese four-panel manga series by Sou Hamayumiba, serialized in Houbunsha's seinen manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Carat since May 2015.
