Blackburn Rovers Football Club is a professional football club, based in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, which competes in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. They have played home matches at Ewood Park since 1890. The club's motto is "Arte et Labore", meaning "By Skill and Hard Work" in Latin. They have a long-standing rivalry with nearby club Burnley, with whom they contest the East Lancashire derby.

The East Lancashire derby, also known as the Cotton Mills derby and El Lanclasico, is an association football rivalry between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley. The nickname originates from the fact that both Blackburn and Burnley are former mill towns. From a town standpoint there is a geographical reason for the rivalry as the two Lancashire towns only lie 11 miles apart. Accrington Stanley F.C. is based in the middle, but is not regarded as a rival by either.

The 1918–19 season was Blackpool F.C.'s fourth and final season in special wartime football during World War I. They competed in two Football League competitions spread over the full season — the Lancashire Section, Northern Group Principal Competition, for thirty games, and then in the Lancashire Section, Group A, Subsidiary Competition, for a further six games. The club finished in 11th place in the principal competition and first in the subsidiary competition, which led to their appearance in the Lancashire Senior Cup. They lost to Liverpool at the semi-final stage by a single goal at Bloomfield Road.

Darwen Football Club was an association football club from Darwen in Lancashire, North West England. The team, formed in 1870, was an early pioneer of professional football in Northern England, reaching the semi-finals of the 1880–81 FA Cup. They were a Football League member from 1891 to 1899. Darwen joined the Lancashire League in 1900 and remained in regional football afterwards. They last played in the First Division of the North West Counties Football League in 2008–09, when the club was wound-up. A successor team, Darwen, was founded soon after. Darwen played their home games at the Anchor Ground.

Albert Walmsley was an English professional footballer who played as a right half. As a youth, he assisted Blackburn St. Peter's and later played for Lancashire Combination side Darwen before joining Football League First Division club Blackburn Rovers in 1907. He went on to play 272 league matches in a 13-year spell with the Ewood Park side. Walmsley transferred to Stockport County at the start of the 1920–21 season and spent three years at the club, scoring 3 goals in 80 league appearances.
Church Football Club was an English association football club based in Church, Lancashire, which once reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. The club originally played at the Church cricket ground, moving to Spring Hill in the early 1880s. The club is notable for being the first opponents of Blackburn Rovers in December 1875.
