Rafiq Ahmad Pampori (born 13 February 1956) is an Indian Islamic scholar,academic and a writer,who established the Darul Uloom Ilahiya,an Islamic seminary in Srinagar. He is seen as a top practitioner of neuroscience in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ahmad is an alumnus of Sri Pratap College and the Government Medical College,Srinagar. He is the rector of Darul Uloom Ilahiya,Srinagar and the director of Illahiya Dialysis Center in Soura. He has served as the registrar and the principal of Government Medical College. He has authored books including Aijazul Qur'ān and Ra'fatul Baari,a five-volume commentary on the Sahih Bukhari .
Rafiq Ahmad Pampori was born on 13 February 1956 in Safa Kadal,Srinagar. He received his primary education at the National School in Karan Nagar and completed his higher secondary education from the Sri Pratap College in 1974. [1] He studied medicine at the Government Medical College,Srinagar,where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1979,and then a Master of Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from the same college in 1983. [2] He did his Neurotology fellowship at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. [1] He benefitted from Muhammad Masihullah Khan in Sufism. [3]
In 1983,Ahmad was appointed registrar of the Government Medical College,Srinagar. [1] In 1990,he was appointed a lecturer in the ENT department of the college and later became its head professor. [1] He was appointed the principal of the college on 1 October 2012. [4] [5] He went on a protest leave in December 2015 seeking voluntarily retirement,while his tenure as the principal was to end on 1 February 2018. He cited that "he cannot see the institutions (GMC and Associated Hospital) deteriorating". [1] [6] It was said that he was forced to apply for the premature retirement by Lal Singh Chaudhary,a politician of the BJP. [7]
Ahmad withdrew his retirement plea at the request of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. [7] Meanwhile,Lal Singh had appointed Kaiser Ahmad as the interim principal on 19 December 2015,who denied to quit the post. [8] [9] It was seen as "a clash of egos and a PDP v/s BJP battle" by Omar Abdullah. [8] According to Kashmir Observer,the government cleared the controversy declaring Kaiser as the principal on 22 December 2015. [10]
Ahmad is seen as a top practitioner of neuroscience in Jammu and Kashmir. [5] Influenced by Muhammad Masihullah Khan,he established the Darul Uloom Ilahiya in Srinagar in 1992 under Khan's guidance. [3] Darul Uloom Ilahiya has several branches in Budgam,Ganderbal and Kulgam. [3] Unlike other seminaries in Jammu and Kashmir,Ilhahiya teaches the dars-e-nizami curriculum according to the Federation of Islamic Institutions,Darul Uloom Deoband and secular education in accordance with the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education. The seminary also runs a middle school where around three hundred students study. [3]
Ahmad is also the founder and director of Illahiya Dialysis Center,Soura. [11] [12] It was set up by the Voluntary Medical Trust,of which Ahmad is chairman. [12] [13] He also serves as the rector of Darul Uloom Ilahiya since its inception in 1992. [3]
Ahmad has authored books such as Aijazul Qur'ān,Instrument For Understanding Qur'ān,Ra'fatul Baari (a five-volume commentary on Sahih Bukhari ) and The Need for Divine Guidance. [2] His other academic publications include:
Srinagar is the summer capital and largest city of the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. Originally a militant wing of the Azad Kashmir Plebiscite Front,the organization officially changed its name to the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front in Birmingham,England on 29 May 1977;from then until 1994 it was an active Kashmiri militant organization. The JKLF first established branches in several cities and towns of the United Kingdom and other countries in Europe,as well as in the United States and across the Middle East. In 1982,it established a branch in the Pakistani-administered territory of Azad Jammu and Kashmir,and by 1987,it had established a branch in the Indian-administered Kashmir Valley.
Burn Hall School is an all boys missionary school in Srinagar,Jammu and Kashmir,India. Its motto is "Industria Floremus - In Toil We Flourish". It is one of the oldest schools in the valley. The school celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 2016.
Maqbool Bhat also spelt Maqbool Butt was a Kashmiri separatist leader who migrated to Pakistan and founded the militant group National Liberation Front (NLF),which was a precursor to the present day Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Bhat carried out multiple attacks in Jammu and Kashmir (state). He was captured and sentenced to double death sentence. He was hanged on 11 February 1984 in Tihar Jail in Delhi.

Sri Pratap College,commonly known as SP College,is an academic and professional college in Srinagar,Jammu and Kashmir,India. The college has been accredited by NAAC with an 'A+' Grade. It is the oldest institute of higher education in the Kashmir Valley.
Anwar Shah Kashmiri was a Kashmiri Muslim scholar and jurist who served as the first principal of Madrasa Aminia and the fourth principal of the Darul Uloom Deoband. He was a student of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi and participated in the Indian freedom struggle through the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. His students include Hifzur Rahman Seoharwi,Yousuf Banuri and Zayn al-Abidin Sajjad Meerthi.
Amanullah Khan was the founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF),a Kashmiri militant activist group that advocates independence for the entire Kashmir region. Khan's JKLF initiated the ongoing armed insurgency in Indian-administered Kashmir with backing from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence,which lasted until Pakistan dropped its support of secular Kashmiri separatists in favour of pro-Pakistan Islamist groups,such as the Hizbul Mujahideen. In 1994,the JKLF in the Kashmir Valley,under the leadership of Yasin Malik,renounced militancy in favour of a political struggle. Amanullah Khan disagreed with the strategy,causing a split in the JKLF.
The Government Medical College,Srinagar is a government medical college and hospital located in Srinagar,Jammu and Kashmir,India. It was established in 1959. It is the oldest medical college in Kashmir. The college and hospital are affiliated with the University of Kashmir and recognized by the Medical Council of India. The college is located in the Karan Nagar area of Srinagar,about 1.5 km (0.93 mi) from Lal Chowk. The girls' hostel is located within the campus but the boys' hostel is one km (0.62 mi) away. It has well-equipped labs. The selection to the college is done on the basis of merit through National Eligibility and Entrance Test.
Mehmooda Ahmed Ali Shah (1920-2014),also known as Miss Mehmooda,was an Indian educationist,social activist and the principal of Government College for Women,M.A. Road Srinagar. She was a close friend of Indira Gandhi and is reported to have worked for creating awareness among the women of Kashmir about the importance of education and for their social empowerment. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri,in 2006,for her contributions to Indian education.
Mirwaiz Muhammad Yusuf Shah was a religious leader and politician in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir during the British Raj. He served as the Imam of the Jama Masjid in Srinagar,a position that is also known as the "Mirwaiz of Kashmir". He relegated the majority of his political career to opposing the Jammu &Kashmir National Conference of Sheikh Abdullah,including siding with Pakistan during the First Kashmir War. He moved to Azad Kashmir and eventually served as the president of Azad Kashmir.
Darul Uloom Raheemiyyah is an Islamic seminary in Bandipore,Jammu and Kashmir. It was established in 1979 by Rahmatullah Mir Qasmi,an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband. It is regarded as the biggest Islamic seminary of Kashmir.

Abdul Ghani Azhari,also known as Abdul Ghani Shah al-Shashi,was an Indian Muslim scholar and historian who served as the head-professor of the University of Kashmir's Arabic department. He was an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband,Mazahir Uloom and the Al-Azhar University. He authored Qadim Tarikh-e-Gujjar,a book detailing the history of Gujjars.
