Ramesh Chander IFS is a retired Indian diplomat, politician and author who served as Consul General of India in Edinburgh. He retired from the Indian Foreign Service in 2010, and his last diplomatic appointment was as an Ambassador of India to Belarus.
Ramesh Chander was born into a Ravidassia family in Bootan Mandi, a locality in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. He pursued his higher education at Panjab University, where he earned a degree in political science. [1] [2]
After joining the Indian Foreign Service, he served India with distinction in various diplomatic missions across Asia, Europe, and Africa. During his illustrious career, Ambassador Chander held several key positions, including Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Tokyo (Japan), Minister at the Embassy of India in Prague (Czech Republic), and Consul General of India in Edinburgh (United Kingdom). His most notable posting was as Ambassador of India to Belarus [3] , a position he held from February 2009 until his retirement in December 2010. [4] After retirement, Chander joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in February 2016. [5]
He authored a book titled The Bits and Pieces: Some Random Thoughts on Babasaheb Ambedkar and His Legacy, [6] and his articles are published on a regular basis in different newspapers.
