Ashok Kumar Attri is a former Indian diplomat of Indian Foreign Service, who served as Ambassador of India to Denmark. [1] He has previously served as Consul General of India at Chicago [2] and Ambassador of India to Oman. [3]
Attri joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1975. During his initial professional life, he was appointed as third secretary in Nairobi from 1977 to 1979. Later he served in an Indian mission in Lusaka, Ottawa and Hanoi. He has also worked at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. From 1994 to April 1998, he was Director of the Secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Kathmandu. [4]
From November 1998 to October 2003, he served as the High Commissioner in Lusaka (Zambia) with a post in Gaborone (Botswana), and then in 2003, he was appointed to the Ministry of External Affairs as a Liaison Secretary. [5] Later he served as consul general of India in Chicago and Indian ambassador to Oman [6] and Denmark. He retired in 2013 after serving as an Indian diplomat for 38 years since 1975. [7]
The Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said, awarded Attri with the prestigious Al Numan Order of First Class in 2007. Attri was given the Order as a token of appreciation for his efforts to improve the two nations' bilateral ties. The Sultan himself conferred the honour on Attri when he called on him to bid farewell at the end of his tenure in Muscat. [8] [9]
Attri also authored the book named 'India and Central Asian Republics'. In this book he discussed India's successful diplomatic relations with countries of Central Asia. [10] [11]
