Raymond P. Flynn (born 22 January 1957) is a retired middle-distance runner who today works as a sports agent. Over the course of his racing career, Flynn ran a total of 89 sub-four minute miles, with his best time (and current Irish mile record) of 3:49.77 on 7 July 1982 in Oslo, Norway at the Bislett Games Dream Mile. [2] He also held the Irish 1500 metres record for 41 years after running 3:33.5, in the same Oslo race.
In 1989, he founded Flynn Sports Management, among the biggest athlete management agencies in athletics. Flynn is also the current meet director of the Millrose Games. [3] [4]
While attending St Mel's College in Longford, Ireland, [5] Flynn won the 1500 meters at the Great Britain Championships against other high school runners, after which he earned an athletic scholarship to East Tennessee State University. At ETSU, he was a member of the 1975 team that won the USA Track & Field Cross Country Championship, and was an NCAA All-American in both track and cross country, finishing only 0.08 seconds behind Steve Scott in the 1,500 meter final at the 1978 NCAA Track & Field Championships. [6] He still holds the ETSU records for the 1500 meters and mile, both indoor and outdoor. [7]
On 30 April 1977, Flynn ran his first sub-4 minute mile at the Penn Relays in a time of 3:59.4. [8] In June of that year, he finished in last place in the men's 1500 meters finals of the NCAA DI Outdoor T&F Championships with a time of 3:42.90. [9]
On 6 February 1981, Flynn finished in second place at the Wanamaker Mile in a time of 3:53.8. [10] He had the lead in the last lap until he was passed by Eamonn Coghlan, who won in 3:53.0. [10] In 1985, Flynn was a member of Ireland's four-man squad along with Marcus O'Sullivan, Eamonn Coghlan, and Frank O'Mara, which set a world record time of 15:49.08 in the 4 x mile relay, in a charity fund-raising race in Dublin. [11] Flynn represented Ireland in the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympic Games, where he was a finalist in the 5000 meters.

Since 2012,Flynn has served as the meeting director of the Millrose Games,a prestigious indoor track and field meeting at the Fort Washington Avenue Armory in New York City. [4]
In 1989,Flynn founded Flynn Sports Management (FSM),which grew into one of the largest agencies in track and field,representing many elite athletes. [12]
Eamonn Christopher Coghlan is an Irish former track and field athlete who specialised in middle distance track events and the 5,000 metres. He is a three-time Olympian,held the world indoor mile record and was world champion in the 5,000 m. Coghlan served as a senator from 2011 to 2016.

Douglas Padilla is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States,who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985. He finished fifth in the 5000m final at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki,and seventh in the 5000m final at the 1984 Summer Olympics. In the 1983 World Championships 5,000-metre final,Padilla was among the favourites,but he succumbed to the radically accelerating pace of top runners,such as Ireland's Eamonn Coghlan,East Germany's Werner Schildhauer and Finland's Martti Vainio,during the last lap. He lost to the winner,Coghlan,by 3.55 seconds,but managed to defeat another unlucky favourite,West Germany's Thomas Wessinghage,by 0.38 seconds. By contrast,the fast 1984 Olympic 5,000-metre final was tough for Padilla already after 3,000 metres,and he painstakingly defeated New Zealand's John Walker who finished eighth. He was ranked number 1 in the world in 1983 for the 3000-meter distance.

Robert Tomlinson "Bob" Wheeler,III was an American athlete in track &field who specialized in the mile. Born in Timonium,Maryland,he went to Dulaney High School in Baltimore County,Maryland,and attended Duke University. He represented the United States at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich,where he ran the 1500 metres. He is still the Duke record holder at the mile (indoor),the 1500 metres (outdoor),and the 1000 metres (indoor),records he ran between 1971 and 1973.
The men's 1,500m metres was an event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal,Quebec,Canada. The final was held on Saturday 31 July 1976 and was contested by 9 athletes. The semifinals were held on 30 July 1976 and were contested by 18 athletes. The heats were held on 29 July 1976 and 45 athletes entered;42 athletes from 28 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by John Walker of New Zealand,the nation's first 1500 metres title since 1964 and third overall. Ivo Van Damme's silver was Belgium's first medal in the event.
Miles Batty is a former track athlete who specialized in middle-distance disciplines. In high school,he was one of the most prolific cross country and distance track runners in the state of Utah. Competing for BYU,Batty earned eight first-team All-American awards,two NCAA championships,broke the NCAA record in the indoor mile,and contributed to BYU's track team successes. Alan Webb is an American former track and field athlete and former triathlete. He finished fifth at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the 3000 m steeplechase.
