Real Racing is a 2009 racing game developed and published by Firemint for iOS. It was released on June 8, 2009 for iPhone and iPod Touch, and later a HD version was released for the iPad, which featured improved graphics to take full advantage of the iPad's capabilities. The game was a critical and commercial success, and has led to two sequels; Real Racing 2 in 2010 and Real Racing 3 in 2013.
The player is given five different control methods from which to choose: Method A features accelerometer steering (tilting the physical device to the left to turn left and to the right to turn right), auto accelerate and manual brake; Method B features accelerometer steering, manual accelerate and manual brake; Method C features touch to steer (where the player touches the left side of the touchscreen to turn left, and the right side to turn right), auto accelerate and manual brake; Method D features a virtual on-screen steering wheel to steer, auto accelerate and manual brake; Method E features a virtual steering wheel to steer, manual accelerate and manual brake. Within each of these options, the player can modify the amount of brake assist. In Methods A and B, the accelerometer sensitivity can also be modified.
In career mode, the player begins with only one available race; a "Hatch qualifier", in which they must complete a single lap in under one minute fifteen seconds to qualify for the next race. As each race is cleared, the next race becomes available. The game is divided into four sections, determined by the type of car; "Hatch", "Sedan", "Muscle" and "Exotic". Each section is further divided into three levels of difficulty; "Class C" is the easiest, followed by "Class B", with "Class A" being the hardest. Career races can include up to five AI opponents.
Other ways to play include a quick race, open time trials (which are connected to online leaderboards using Firemint's Cloudcell technology), local multiplayer and online trial leagues. A six player online multiplayer mode is also available. [3]
There are forty-eight different cars to choose from in the game, although with the exception of two Volkswagen GTIs, none are officially licensed. There are twelve different fictional tracks on which to race.
In October 2009, Firemint released Real Racing GTI. A limited edition free version of the full game, GTI was made in cooperation with Volkswagen as a way to promote their newly unveiled 2010 GTI model. The game featured only three tracks, and six selectable cars, all models of GTI. [2] [4] Originally conceived by AKQA, GTI proved very successful, with over four million downloads. [5]

Real Racing has received critical acclaim. It holds an aggregate score of 88 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on four reviews, [7] and 96% on GameRankings, based on six reviews. [6]
IGN's Levi Buchanan gave the game 9 out of 10, saying "Real Racing is the best racing game on the App Store right now. It's lethal combination of unparalleled AI, exceptional visuals, and lively community features leave the competition choking on its exhaust fumes." [8] Jeff Scott of 148Apps scored the game 5 out of 5, calling it the "best racer ever," with particular praise for the graphics; "the visuals are absolutely fantastic. Perfectly rendered and wonderfully smooth, this could be the best looking game we've seen yet on the iPhone." [10] Appvee also scored the game 5 out of 5, saying it was "the most realistic racing game for the iPhone yet." [11]
Pocket Gamer's Tracy Erickson scored the game 9 out of 10, giving it a "Gold Award" and calling it "an effervescent taste of simulation racing that is as classic as it is inventive [...] a sophisticated, focused game that hits the spot." They were particularly impressed with the graphics, which they said "are without question the best of any iPhone game yet. Real Racing establishes a lofty new standard in visual fidelity." [9] Slide to Play's Joe Hunt scored the game 4 out of 4, saying "As ambitious as anything in the App Store [...] it's breathtakingly realistic in all aspects of its design and is easily one of the best games on the iPhone to date." [12] The game would go on to win Slide to Play's "Game of the Year 2009" award. [14]
TouchGen's Nacho Andrade gave the game 5 out of 5 and an "Editor's Choice" award, commenting that "Real Racing is the best racing game to hit the iPhone so far, bar none." They were especially impressed with the technical aspects of the game; "the graphics are great, but I think an even greater stand out is this game's technical prowess [...] During the game you will notice how quick everything is, the frame rate is very smooth with no slowdowns [...] The game is so well crafted it creates an experience you may not have thought possible on the iPhone." They concluded that "Real Racing is an unparalleled iPhone racing experience. Firemint has pulled out all the stops to give us one of the best titles we have ever seen for the iPhone."
Carmageddon is a vehicular combat video game released for personal computers in 1997. It was produced by Stainless Games and published by Interplay Productions and Sales Curve Interactive. It was ported to other platforms, and spawned a series.

Simulated racing or racing simulation, commonly known as simply sim racing, are the collective terms for racing game software that attempts to accurately simulate auto racing, complete with real-world variables such as fuel usage, damage, tire wear and grip, and suspension settings. To be competitive in sim racing, a driver must understand all aspects of car handling that make real-world racing so difficult, such as threshold braking, how to maintain control of a car as the tires lose traction, and how properly to enter and exit a turn without sacrificing speed. It is this level of difficulty that distinguishes sim racing from arcade racing-style driving games where real-world variables are taken out of the equation and the principal objective is to create a sense of speed as opposed to a sense of realism like the Need for Speed series.

The app was a number one bestseller on the App Store in 19 countries simultaneously on April 6, 2009 and has sold over 3.8 million copies. The development and publishing of Flight Control on non-Apple mobile phones is being handled by Namco under license.

N.O.V.A. Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance is an action-adventure video game for the iPad and other Apple products made for Apple by Gameloft. It was released on December 17, 2009, for iOS, WebOS and is one of the games containing the Gameloft Live online gaming service. It was later released on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 on December 21, 2010, just five days after the release of N.O.V.A. 2. N.O.V.A Legacy, a remaster of the original N.O.V.A. developed by Gameloft Madrid, was also released for Android on the Google Play Store in 2017 and on iOS App Store in 2018.
Real Racing 2 and 2 HD for the iPad release, is a 2010 racing game, developed and published by Firemint for iOS, Android, OS X Lion and Windows Phone 8. It was released on December 16, 2010 for iPhone and iPod Touch, powered by Firemint's own Mint3D engine. A separate iPad version was released on March 11, 2011. On January 11, 2012 Real Racing 2 was confirmed as one of twenty-seven titles to be released on Windows Phone as part of a partnership between Electronic Arts and Nokia. The game is the sequel to 2009's Real Racing, and the download requires a one-time payment. It was a critical and commercial success, and a further freemium sequel, Real Racing 3, was released in 2013.
Asphalt 6: Adrenaline is a racing video game developed, published by Gameloft and was the sixth major game of Asphalt series. It was released for iOS on December 21, 2010, for Mac OS X on February 17, 2011, for Android on June 15, for Symbian^3 on July 20, for Mobile phones on August 31, for webOS on September 3, for BlackBerry PlayBook on October 12, and for Bada 2.0 on January 10, 2012.
3D Pixel Racing is an arcade-style racing game developed by Vidia and released in 2011. The game was released as a downloadable game on WiiWare and in the App Store for iOS devices. 3D Pixel Racing heavily capitalizes on its graphical uniqueness. Unlike most 3D games, every object in 3D Pixel Racing is made of multi-colored voxels that are reminiscent of old 8-bit games from the 1970s and 80's.
DrawRace 2 is a racing video game developed by Ubisoft RedLynx and published by EA Chillingo. It was released September 1, 2011 for iOS devices, and serves as the sequel to DrawRace. It is played by drawing an ideal racing line on the game's screen with a finger. The car then follows this line during a race. The game was well received by critics, and holds a four stars rating and an average score of 88/100 at review aggregator Metacritic.
Asphalt 7: Heat is a 2012 racing video game developed and published by Gameloft and the ninth major game of Asphalt series. It was released on June 21, 2012 for the iOS and marks the first time in the series that a game is the same for both the iPhone and iPad. The game was launched for Android on June 25, for BlackBerry 10 on February 21, 2013, for Windows Phone 8 on February 27, for BlackBerry PlayBook on April 3, and for Windows 8 on August 22, and Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. In 2017, the game was retired from the app stores except on BlackBerry.
Real Racing 3 is a 2013 racing game developed by Firemonkeys Studios and published by Electronic Arts for iOS, Android, Nvidia Shield and BlackBerry 10 devices. It was released on iOS and Android on February 28, 2013, under the freemium business model; it was free to download, with enhancements available through in-app purchases. It was considered that it had one of the best graphical experience at that time. Over time and despite an expensive virtual economy ingame, the developers began to tolerate the use of playing with time zones in order for the players to watch unlimited ads to get free gold.
Table Top Racing is racing video game developed and published by British studio Playrise Digital. The game was originally developed for iOS on January 31, 2013, and later released for Android devices on January 23, 2014. A PlayStation Vita version was released on August 5, 2014.
VS. Racing 2 is a racing video game for the iOS platform. The game was developed and released by Maciek Drejak Labs on September 6, 2012. It is the sequel to the original VS. Racing, which was released by the same development team on the same platform in 2011. The game was generally well-received, with critics praising the simple but solid gameplay, but criticizing the lack of content in its initial release prior to updates.
Asphalt 8: Airborne is a 2013 racing video game developed by Gameloft Barcelona and published by Gameloft. It is the tenth major game of the Asphalt series. It was released on August 22, 2013, for iOS and Android, November 13 for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, January 15, 2014 for BlackBerry 10, and April 5, 2015 for Tizen. Its successor, Asphalt Legends Unite, was announced on February 26, 2018. The game has about 470 million players, according to the game description in the App Store.

Colin McRae Rally is a rally racing video game developed and published by Codemasters. It was originally released for iOS mobile devices in June 2013, and then ported to Android devices and OS X and Windows personal computers (PCs) in 2014. Gameplay is similar to early iterations of the series with content predominantly taken from the 2000 title Colin McRae Rally 2.0. Players can drive cars and participate in point-to-point rally events, competing against times recorded by computer drivers. Stages take place in several different locations with varied terrain like tarmac and gravel. The game features damage modelling and chassis deformation effects that can be sustained from collisions.
