Grupa Regina is a Bosnian rock band founded in 1989 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, then part of Yugoslavia. The band has so far released eleven studio albums, one compilation album and two singles.
Aleksandar Čović, Goran Lučić, and the Milijaš brothers began a garage band. After searching, they found Davor Ebner, who became their lead singer. Bojan Milićević joined the group in 1990 (before the release of the first album). Once the band was created, it was immediately successful all over Yugoslavia with the slogan "MI NISMO MERLIN, MI SMO REGINA" ("We aren't Merlin, we're Regina").
When the Yugoslav Wars began in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serb members of the band fled to Belgrade, where Regina continued until 2000, when Čović started his solo career. In 2005, the band reunited with the original members and appeared at a Serbian radio festival organized by Radio S. In 2007, they were an opening act at The Rolling Stones concert at Jaz Beach, Budva.
On 16 May 2009, the band performed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, with the song called "Bistra voda" ("Clear Water"). [1] After winning one of ten places from the first semi-final, they eventually finished in 9th place in the final (with 106 points). [2]
In June 2009, Regina released their album Vrijeme je (It's Time), featuring the songs Vrijeme je, Bježi dok sam mlad and Zvaću te pile moje. It also features English and Russian versions of Bistra Voda. [3] In 2011, Regina released their album Kad poludimo (When we go crazy). In 2014, the band released the singles Kalimero and Zatupi Zaglupi. In 2016, Regina published their biography called Ljubav nije za nas (Love isn't for us). On 16 August 2016, bassist Denis Čabrić died of a heart attack on holiday in Croatia with his family at the age of 49. [4]
On 10 February 2017, the band released their 12th studio album called U Srcu (In the Heart). [5]
In late December 2021, it was stated and confirmed that Davor Ebner, Regina's lead vocalist, left the band. [6]
Đorđe Balašević was a Serbian and Yugoslav singer and songwriter, writer, poet and director. He began his career in the late 1970s as a member of the band Rani Mraz, transitioning after two albums to a solo career. He first gained mainstream prominence for writing Rani Mraz's hit "Računajte na nas", which was often described as an anthem of a generation. Noted for his vivid lyricism and poetry, Balašević was also known for weaving political commentary into his songs and live performance.
Fuad Backović, better known by his stage name Deen, is a Bosnian pop recording artist, reality star and fashion designer. Backović was the lead singer of the Bosnian boy band 7Up from 1997 until 2002, when he became a solo artist. He represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "In the Disco".
Zabranjeno pušenje is a Bosnian rock band formed in Sarajevo in 1980. The group's musical style primarily consists of a distinctive garage rock sound with folk influences, often featuring innovative production and complex storytelling. Currently, the band consists of founding member, vocalist and guitarist Sejo Sexon, longtime drummer Branko Trajkov, guitarist Toni Lović, bassist Dejan Orešković, and violinist and keyboardist Robert Boldižar.
Željko Joksimović is a Serbian vocalist, composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He plays 12 different musical instruments including accordion, piano, guitar and drums. Joksimović is multi-lingual, being fluent in Greek, English, Russian, Polish and French as well as his native Serbian.
Halid Bešlić is a Bosnian folk singer and musician who has been performing professionally since 1979. Halid's singing career was one of the most successful in Yugoslavia, and continues today throughout the entire Balkan region.
Kemal Monteno was a Bosnian recording artist and singer-songwriter whose career stretched from the 1960s to the 2010s.
Davor Sučić, better known by his stage name Sejo Sexon, is a Bosnian rock and roll musician, film score composer, actor and television director. He is most notably the bandleader and a co-founder of the rock group Zabranjeno Pušenje, contributing on all Zabranjeno Pušenje releases. He was one of the founders of the New Primitivism movement in his hometown Sarajevo. As an actor, he has been featured in the Top lista nadrealista.
Edin Dervišhalidović, known professionally as Dino Merlin, is a Bosnian singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. Born in Sarajevo, he was the founder and leader of 'Merlin', which eventually became one of the best selling rock-bands of Southeast Europe.
Hari Mata Hari is a Bosnian rock band. Hari Mata Hari is the stage name for the singer Hari Varešanović. The group originated from the city of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The group has performed over 1,000 concerts and sold 5 million albums to date. Their songs are among the most famous and popular love ballads in the former Yugoslavia era. Hari Mata Hari was the representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 held in Athens, Greece. Coincidentally, hari mata hari is Malay for 'day of the sun, or Sunday'.
Davorin Popović was a Bosnian singer and songwriter, born in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was well known throughout the former Yugoslavia. He was the lead singer and frontman of the progressive and pop rock band Indexi throughout most of their career. He and his band "Indexi" became founders of specific music style in former Yugoslavia known as "Sarajevo pop-rock school" who later influenced other bands and singers in Sarajevo and other parts of Yugoslavia.
Neda Ukraden is a Serbian singer. Her professional career stretches back to 1967.
Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Bistra voda" written by Aleksandar Čović. The song was performed by the band Regina. On 12 January 2009, the Bosnian broadcaster Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT) revealed that they had internally selected Regina to compete at the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. Their song, "Bistra voda", was presented to the public during a show entitled BH Eurosong Show 2009 on 1 March 2009.
"Ljubav Nije Za Nas" is a popular song of the Bosnian rock band Regina. The song was released as a track of the eponymous album in 1991.
Dubrovački trubaduri was a Croatian beat, folk and pop band from Dubrovnik formed in 1961 by Đelo Jusić, main composer, guitar and mandolin player and leader of the group. They were very popular in Yugoslavia during the 1960s and 1970s for their mixture of pop music and medieval folk traditions of their native ancient city on the Adriatic coast. Internationally also known as 'Dubrovnic Troubadours or The Troubadours Of Dubrovnik, they enjoyed brief popularity across Western Europe having appeared at the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest in London. Their song "Jedan dan" was performed by their singers Luciano "Lući" Capurso and Hamo Hajdarhodžić and it scored 7th position. Their other major hits include "Dok Palme Njišu Grane" from 1971, and the Italian-influenced "Noćna Muzika" from 1972. The group, in different line-ups, existed until the early 1980s when they broke up.
Maja Sarihodžić, known by her stage name Maya Sar, is a Bosnian singer-songwriter. Sar represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Korake ti znam". Her debut album Krive riječi was released 1 June 2013.
Sikter is a Bosnian alternative rock band from Sarajevo. The band was formed in 1990 as a punk rock project of a few students, but became one of the most successful Bosnian rock bands. The name of the band is translated as Buzz Off!
The Maniacs are a group of Ultras of the Bosnian football club FK Željezničar Sarajevo. There are also subgroups like Blue Tigers, Joint Union, Urban Corps, Stari Grad and Vendetta.
Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Ljubav je" written by Almir Ajanović and Jasmin Fazlić Jala. The song was performed by Dalal and Deen featuring Ana Rucner and Jala. Dalal and Deen are Bosnian singers, the former known as a member of the duo Erato and the latter having represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, while Ana Rucner is a Croatian cellist and Jala is a Bosnian rapper. In November 2015, the Bosnian broadcaster Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT) announced that they would be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a three-year absence after securing sponsorship to cover both the participation fee and all costs related to the participation. In the same month, the broadcaster revealed that they had internally selected Dalal Midhat-Talakić, Fuad Backović-Deen, Ana Rucner and Jasmin Fazlić Jala to compete at the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Their song, "Ljubav je", was presented to the public during a show entitled BH Eurosong Show 2016 on 19 February 2016.
Balkan ballads are the emotional, slow music styles of the Balkan region of Southeastern Europe. Balkan ballads, similar to other ballads, often deal with various themes related to love while using Balkan string instruments such as the šargija, as well as the clarinet, trumpet, accordion, fiddle, guitar and bass guitar. Balkan ballads are distinct from traditional ballads by including a fusion of pop music, folk music and sentimental ballads. Singers usually perform in their native languages.
Šok i nevjerica is the eleventh studio album by Bosnian rock band Zabranjeno Pušenje, released through Tropik in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Menart in Croatia and Serbia, on October 31, 2018.
