Igor Cukrov (born 6 June 1984) is a Croatian singer-songwriter, musician and television personality. He came to media attention as one of sixteen contestants of talents show Operacija trijumf, Balkan version of Endemol's Star Academy . Cukrov represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, alongside Andrea Šušnjara, with the song "Lijepa Tena", written by Tonči Huljić. [1] [3] The song qualified to the final from the second semi-final as the jury's selected qualifier. It eventually finished in the 18th place with 45 points.

Career

Early career

Since early childhood, Cukrov showed interest for music, in 1991. He won the first prize in "Moj prvi nastup" led by Remi Kazinotti. In 1993, he won first prize for first voice of "Pojišan" school, than later third place in category of all schools of Split.

In 1994, Cukrov participated in children's version on Split Festival, singing the song "Mali vrabac". In 2003 he won the first prize for the first voice of Šibenik-Knin County.

Cukrov performed at the Split Festival, where he was awarded a prize for best debutant (2007) and he has also gained experience as a tenor of the a cappella Cambi singers. [1]

Operacija trijumf

The Operacija trijumf was the Balkan version of Endemol's talents show Star Academy . It included the young talents from whole former SFR Yugoslavia (except Slovenia and Kosovo) – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. The show began on 29 September 2008. Cukrov showcased his singing abilities through a wide repertory, singing opera songs such as "Con te partirò" of Andrea Bocelli, but also rock songs such as "Angie" of the Rolling Stones and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" of Aerosmith.[ citation needed ] The contestants of the Operacija trijumf, including Cukrov, supported Goran Karan at his concert in Belgrade, singing "Stand by Me". [4]

Igor Cukrov was expelled on the 13th gala event, losing in telephone voting to Vukašin Brajić. [5] During the show, there were some rumors that the judge Tonči Huljić is very protective about Cukrov, [6] because he was never nominated, until the twelfth gala; Huljić later stated that expelling Cukrov was an injustice. [5]

Eurovision Song Contest 2009

After the Operacija trijumf, all the contestants expressed the will to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, which was held in Moscow. [7] The Croatian OT contestants Cukrov and Ana Bebić immediately qualified for the final event. [8] The song "Lijepa Tena" was written and composed by famous Croatian musician Tonči Huljić. The Croatian final for the Eurovision Song Contest – Dora – was held on 28 February 2008, and Igor Cukrov won with the total of 30 points. [3] The song competed in the second semi-final where it won qualification for the final as the jury's selected pick. It finished in 18th place.

Magazin is a Croatian pop band from Split. Founded in 1979 under the name Dalmatinski magazin, the band quickly began to make a mark on local pop music festivals with its songs influenced by Dalmatian folk music. A total of twenty-four entries competed in the national final which consisted of two shows: a semi-final and a final. In the semi-final on 27 February 2009, six entries qualified to compete in the final on 28 February 2009 alongside ten pre-qualified songs. In the final, "Lijepa Tena" performed by Igor Cukrov was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a six-member jury panel and a public televote.

OT is a Serbian pop/rock band founded in Belgrade in 2009. It was formed by four contestants of Operacija trijumf, the Balkan version of Endemol's Fame Academy. After the first series the original production company lost their licence which was then acquired by Prva, Serbian broadcaster and production company. It was revealed that Croatian broadcaster RTL was interested in bringing the show to Croatia as well, and that would broadcast it.
In late February 2015 it was announced that Aleksandra Kovač, Massimo, Tonči Huljić and Željko Joksimović would judge the series. Shortly after that Antonija Blaće, Sneža Velkov and Aleksandar Radojičić would take the roles of show hosts. The season premiered on 22 March 2015.

<i>Bižuterija</i> 2011 studio album by Jelena Rozga

Bižuterija is the second studio album by Croatian singer Jelena Rozga. It was released on 15 July 2011, by Hit Records and Tonika Records. As with the singer's previous album Oprosti Mala (2006), most songs from the album were written by the duo Tonči Huljić and Vjekoslava Huljić. All songs were produced by Remi Kazinoti and saw new collaborations, with Edo Botrić, Pero Kozomara and Robert Pilepić. Bižuterija was commercially successful in Croatia where it peaked at number one on the Croatian Albums Chart and received a gold certification by the Croatian Phonographic Industry for sales over 15.000 copies. The album was also critically well received by music critics who saw it as a turning point in her career and an evolution of her sound.

Lorena, whose birth name is Lorena Bućan, is a Croatian singer. Lorena rose to fame in 2018 after finishing third on the second season of Zvijezde. She has signed a contract with record label Tonika Records where she primarily collaborates with musician Tonči Huljić. She has released several successful singles with the label, including "Tower of Babylon", "Tihi ocean", "Tvoja i gotovo" and "Kad si ti u pitanju" among others.

Vjekoslava Huljić is a Croatian lyricist, songwriter, novelist and writer. Born in Duvno and raised in Split, Huljić emerged as a successful lyricist with several hits of the Croatian group Magazin. She is considered to be one of the most productive and successful Croatian writers and lyricists and is most widely known for her collaborations with her husband and musician Tonči Huljić.
