Ronaldo del Carmen (born December 31, 1959) is a Filipino writer, director, storyboard artist, illustrator, and voice actor. He co-directed and co-wrote the story for the Pixar film Inside Out (2015), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Early life and education

Del Carmen was born in the city of Cavite in the Philippines. [1] After high school, he worked as a painter on the set of Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 film Apocalypse Now , which was filming in the Philippines. [2] He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising. [2]

Film

After college, Del Carmen worked as an art director for print and television advertising campaigns before moving to the United States in 1989 to pursue a career in film. [2] He worked for Warner Bros as a storyboard artist on Batman: The Animated Series , and as a story supervisor for DreamWorks on The Prince of Egypt (1998), The Road to El Dorado (2000), Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003). [3] He joined Pixar Animation Studios in 2000, working as story supervisor on Finding Nemo (2003), production designer on the Academy Award-nominated short film One Man Band (2005), storyboard artist on Ratatouille (2007) and WALL-E (2008), and story supervisor on Up (2009). [3] [4] He made his directorial debut with the animated short film Dug's Special Mission (2009), which accompanied Up on its DVD and Blu-ray release. [4] He co-directed the computer-animated Inside Out with Pete Docter. [5] [6] The film premiered at the 68th Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2015. [7] In April 2021, it was revealed that Del Carmen had left Pixar and is set to write and direct an original Philippine-themed animated feature film at Netflix, although he has appeared in a few roles from Pixar films in later years. [8]

Comic books

Del Carmen has illustrated several comic books, including Batman Adventures: Holiday Special, which won an Eisner Award for Best Single Issue in 1995, and the children's book My Name Is Dug, written by Kiki Thorpe. [3] He has also written several comic books, including the Paper Biscuit series and And There You Are. [9]

Personal life

Del Carmen is married and has two children. [1] His brothers, Louie and Rick, also work in animation. [10]

Gini Cruz Santos is a Filipina animator at Pixar studios based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She worked on numerous Pixar animation films including Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, A Bug's Life, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Toy Story 3, Up, Lifted and Brave. She was nominated in 2004 for an Annie award for her detailed lifelike animation on Finding Nemo, and was nominated by the Visual Effects Society for an award for this project as well.

He is also directing the upcoming Transformers animated film Transformers One (2024). Prior, he co-wrote the screenplay for the film Inside Out (2015), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

She wrote and directed her first animated short film, Kitbull (2019), for which she received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Dug Days is an American animated series of shorts created, written, and directed by Bob Peterson and produced by Pixar Animation Studios initially for Disney+. The series is set immediately after the 2009 film Up, following its main characters, dog Dug, voiced by Peterson, and his owner, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, voiced by Ed Asner in one of his last performances before his death.

It takes place inside the mind of a girl named Riley, where multiple personified emotions administer her thoughts and actions. The franchise is produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by its parent company Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It began with the 2015 film of the same name, and will be followed by Inside Out 2 (2024). The franchise also includes a short film, several video games, and two theme park attractions.
