The Rugby sevens competition at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas, Isle of Man will be held in September 2011 at The Bowl Stadium. [1]

Qualification

A total of 8 teams will compete in this tournament. The host nations Isle of Man and Scotland as hosts of the 2014 Commonwealth Games get automatic entries into the tournament, along with the highest ranked nation of the Commonwealth's six regions (Africa, Americas, Asia, Caribbean, Europe and Oceania). The 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games were held in Cardiff, Wales, from 18 to 26 July 1958. It was the sixth edition of what would come to be known as the Commonwealth Games, the second Games held in the United Kingdom, and the second held under the name British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

The 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games were held in Kingston, Jamaica, from 4 to 13 August 1966. This was the first time that the Games had been held outside the so-called White Dominions. The event was followed by the 1966 Commonwealth Paraplegic Games for wheelchair athletes. Jamaica remains the only host nation of a Commonwealth Games that did not win at least one gold medal in its own games.

The 1970 British Commonwealth Games were held in Edinburgh, Scotland, from 16 to 25 July 1970. This was the first time the name British Commonwealth Games was adopted, the first time metric units rather than imperial units were used in all events, and also the first time the event was held in Scotland. Also, the event saw the first unique Games trademark logo: an emblem showing the Games emblem intertwined with a St Andrews Cross and a thistle. The event was followed by the 1970 Commonwealth Paraplegic Games for wheelchair athletes.

Cricket was played at the 1900 Summer Olympics, a men's contest with only two entrants, won by Great Britain over France. It is scheduled to be included again in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, with men's and women's Twenty20 tournaments.

The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The games were held in the years, mid-way between when the Commonwealth Games are held, until 2008. They continued to be held every four years, but in the year after the Commonwealth Games are held, from 2011 to 2015. Since 2017, they've been held in the year before the Commonwealth Games are held. The first edition was held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 10–14 August 2000. The age limitation of the athletes is from 14 to 18.

The 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, officially known as the IV Commonwealth Youth Games, and commonly known as Isle Of Man 2011, is a multi-sport event which took place from 7 to 13 September 2011 in the British Crown Dependency of the Isle of Man. As per the original quadrennial cycle, the Games were scheduled for 2012. However, the Commonwealth Games Federation at its general assembly in 2005 decided to move the Games within one year before the Summer Olympics. The Bowl Stadium at the National Sports Centre, Douglas staged the opening ceremony on 7 September 2011. The closing ceremony was held on Douglas Promenade & the Villa Marina on 13 September.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sport in the Isle of Man</span>

For a small country, sport in the Isle of Man plays an important part in making the island known to the wider world. The principal international sporting event held on the island is the annual Isle of Man TT motorcycling event. However, the Isle of Man is represented internationally in a number of other sports at the Commonwealth Games and the Island Games.

The Commonwealth Judo Championships are an international judo competition, open to countries of the Commonwealth of Nations. Inaugurated in 1986, the Championships are held on a biennial basis, and are recognised by the Commonwealth Games Federation, and organised by the Commonwealth Judo Association. As Judo is an optional sport for the purposes of the Commonwealth Games, on the three occasions since 1986 that judo has been included in the Commonwealth Games programme, the Games judo tournament has doubled as the Commonwealth Judo Championships for that year; in 1990, 2002 and 2014. On these occasions, the host organising committee of the Games takes responsibility for organising the tournament on behalf of the CJA and CGF. From 2022, Judo will become a core sport in the Commonwealth Games schedule.

Football has been a regular event since 1989 at the Island Games, the biennial multi-sports event for island nations, territories and dependencies. A 5-a-side competition for under-16s was held at the inaugural event on the Isle of Man, and the success this minor competition brought to the games meant senior men's football was included on the itinerary for the first time in the Faroe Islands, in 1989. Women's football was included on the games' schedule for the first time in 2001.

At the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the athletics events were held at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. A total of 41 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 18 by female athletes.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2017 Commonwealth Youth Games</span>

The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, officially known as the VI Commonwealth Youth Games, and commonly known as Bahamas 2017, or Nassau 2017, was the sixth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games which started in 2000. The games were held from 19 to 23 July 2017 in Nassau, Bahamas. 64 nations participated at the games. The Bahamas 2017 was the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes. During the opening ceremony the Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis declared the games officially open. It was the first the time that the tournament was opened by a prime minister instead of a monarch or a president.

The Gymnastics event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held at Indira Gandhi Arena.

Allisen Camille is a Seychellois badminton player. Camille competed at the 2010, 2014, and 2018 Commonwealth Games. She won two silvers and a bronze at the 2011 All-Africa Games in the women's doubles, mixed doubles, and team event respectively. Partnered with Juliette Ah-Wan, they secured the women's doubles gold medal at the 2015 All-Africa Games.

Triathlon at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held in the Southport Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast from April 5 to 7. A total of five events took place, two each for men and women and a mixed relay event. For the first time ever, para-triathlon events were contested at the Commonwealth Games.
