Sadie King (née Campbell, previously Sinclair) is a fictional character from the British television soap opera Emmerdale , played by Patsy Kensit. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 10 May 2004. The character was introduced as the wife of Jimmy King (Nick Miles), who arrived with his family in February–March 2004. Kensit left the serial to accept a role on Holby City and Sadie made her final appearance on 21 September 2006. For her portrayal of Sadie, Kensit won the Best Bitch accolade at the 2005 and 2006 Inside Soap Awards.
Sadie arrives in Emmerdale via helicopter to join her husband Jimmy King (Nick Miles). Her arrival instantly capturing the attention of the villagers. She immediately dislikes Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), her father-in-law, Tom King's (Ken Farrington) ex-fiancée. Sadie's one ally is her sister-in-law, Colleen King (Melanie Ash), the wife of Jimmy's brother, Carl King (Tom Lister) and is unhappy when he begins dating Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). Sadie begins to lose interest in Jimmy when she realises they both have vastly different dreams, with Sadie being ambitious and Jimmy wanting a family. Sadie begins taking contraceptive injections behind Jimmy's back and when she confesses, Jimmy demands a divorce.
Sick of being rejected by Jimmy, Sadie begins an affair with local mechanic Robert Sugden (Karl Davies). Knowing that Jimmy's rejection means her position in the King family is under threat, Sadie hatches a plan to ensure Charity never becomes Tom's wife. She employs a private detective to trail Charity, and bribed her relative and lover Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) to get Charity in a compromising position. Sadie then presents Tom with the incriminating photos on the day of the wedding, which does not go ahead. Charity decides to retaliate by having sex with Jimmy and videotaping the event. When Charity arrives at Jimmy's birthday party several weeks later, she tells the Kings that she and Jimmy have been having an affair, before playing the tape in which Jimmy reveals Sadie's scheming and the state of their marriage. In the fallout, Tom disowns Jimmy and Sadie. Sadie enlists Cain's help again and is able to buy the land the Kings want for their development and blackmails her way back into the company.
Sadie has sex with Cain, but later rejects his advances. Cain takes his revenge on Sadie by killing her dog, Damon. When Jimmy and Carl's youngest brother Max King (Charlie Kemp) dies in a road collision, Sadie uses Tom's vulnerability to her advantage and is back in the fold after blackmailing his business rival Zoe Tate (Leah Bracknell) into selling Home Farm to the Kings. This impresses Tom as he sought to own Home Farm to further establish his family empire. Later on, Tom becomes so grateful to Sadie that he kisses her, much to her shock. The kiss is witnessed by Jimmy.
Sadie begins a relationship with her eldest brother-in-law, Matthew King (Matt Healy), who had been in love with her for years and they had a fling the day before she married. As Tom prepares to step down from running the company and hand the reigns to Matthew, Jimmy exposes the affair and Tom gives Matthew an ultimatum – the company or Sadie. Matthew chooses the business, devastating Sadie. Sadie rebounds by becoming engaged to wealthy Alasdair Sinclair (Ray Coulthard), but there are two problems standing in her way – Alasdair's mother Rosemary Sinclair (Linda Thorson) and Matthew. Sadie and Alasdair's wedding goes ahead, but within minutes, Matthew confesses his love for Sadie and she chooses him much to the anger of Alasdair who punches Matthew. Now away from the family, Sadie encourages Matthew to buy Don Clough's haulage business and give his family false information. This works, but Matthew alienates his family further.
Sadie later pays Cain to sabotage the opening of the Kings' River's Showhome development. Jimmy confronts her, but she knocks him out. The showhome explodes killing Dawn Woods (Julia Mallam), Noreen Bell (Jenny Tomasin) and estate agent David Brown (Peter Alexander). Jimmy survives and tells Matthew what Sadie did and when Matthew confronts her, she confesses to staging the explosion and he reconciles with his family. Out for revenge, Sadie and Cain devise a plot to kidnap Tom. Cain shoots Sadie, seemingly killing her, but it is later to be revealed to have been staged. Cain makes it clear he is fleeing with the £2.5 million they stole alone. Sadie then leaves the village. She later sends flowers to Tom's funeral several months later, however, the flowers are discarded by Matthew.
In February 2004 it was announced that Pasty Kensit had agreed to sign a contract to play a new character in Emmerdale who will appear from May onwards. Speaking of her casting Kensit said: "I'm a bit of a country girl at heart, and it's so exciting to be joining a popular soap." A show spokeswomen said: "She is a seductive, powerful and manipulative woman who knows what she wants and makes sure she gets it. We hope her character will follow in the footsteps of the soap's last superbitch, Kim Tate (Claire King)."Also saying Pasty said: "I can’t wait to get started on Emmerdale and I’ve become an avid viewer! I am a bit of a country girl at heart and it is so exciting to be joining, especially at a time when the show is so strong. The prospect of being watched by over 10 million viewers every night is intimidating but I can’t wait to get stuck in." Series Producer, Steve Frost says, "We’re very excited to have Patsy on board and looking forward to introducing such a great character to the show. Sadie will be the envy of women and the desire of men."
In December 2005, it was reported that Kensit had decided to leave the role of Sadie, for an opportunity to star in BBC medical serial Holby City as nurse Faye Morton.
Kensit's portrayal of Sadie earned her the "Best Bitch" award at the 2005 and 2006 Inside Soap Award ceremonies, respectively.She was also nominated for "Sexiest Female" at the 2006 British Soap Awards. Sadie's and Cain's exit was nominated for "Best Single episode" the 2007 British Soap Awards.
The scenes during the episode featuring Sadie and Cain's exit where they kidnap Tom King and Cain appears to shoot Sadie received 37 complaints to media regulator Ofcom. ITV defended the storyline by saying it was one of the most "exciting and successful" events in the serial's history and added "Whilst Emmerdale stories do not condone violent acts, it need not and should not shy away from them." 8.5 million viewers tuned in for the episode.
Matthew King is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, played by Matt Healy. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 4 March 2004. Matthew arrived as part of the King family, a family of successful businessmen. During his time on the show, Matthew had relationships with several women and was engaged to Anna De Souza when he died. Matthew's last appearance was on 16 December 2008.
Zoe Tate is a fictional character from the British soap opera Emmerdale, played by Leah Bracknell. She made her first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 12 December 1989. Zoe was involved in many major storylines during her time on the soap, including the deaths of her father Frank and brother Chris, the betrayal and departure of her stepmother Kim, coming out as gay and a battle with schizophrenia. Zoe became the first lesbian character in a British soap opera when she came out in 1993. She departed on 22 September 2005.
Zak Dingle is a fictional character from the British soap opera Emmerdale, played by Steve Halliwell. He first appeared on 20 October 1994. Halliwell initially joined the show as part of the Dingle family and was only initially supposed to appear for a few episodes, but has become a key part of the soap since his introduction. He has been nominated for several awards for his portrayal of Zak. Some of Zak's storylines have included his wife Nellie divorcing him in 1997, marrying Lisa Clegg in 1998, having a daughter, Belle in 1998, the death of his son, Butch in 2000, Lisa being raped in 2011, assaulting his son Cain and leaving him temporarily paralysed in 2011, suffering a mental breakdown in 2012, trying to control his rebellious daughter and dealing with the death of Lisa.

Cain Dingle is a fictional character from the British soap opera Emmerdale, played by Jeff Hordley. Cain made his first appearance on 30 March 2000, and in 2006, he was written out of the series when Hordley left the soap; however, the option for a return was confirmed, which occurred when Hordley returned to the cast in February 2009. Debbie Dingle is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, played by Charley Webb. Webb has taken maternity leave three times, with the first time being in 2010 before returning in 2011, and the second throughout 2016 with Debbie departing on 1 January 2016. She returned on 24 January 2017 and then went on maternity leave for a third time in 2019 as Debbie left for Scotland on 13 August 2019. She returned on 25 December 2020 and left again in 11 February 2021.
Carl Thomas King is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, played by Tom Lister. The character and casting were announced in January 2004 when it was announced that producers were bringing "four new single 'hunks'" into the show, one of them being Carl. Lister made his first appearance on the show on 6 February 2004. Throughout the course of his story arc, Carl establishes a relationship with Chas Dingle – which contributes to his storylines that include the pair having a ill-fated wedding after Chas exposes Carl's affair with her best friend Eve Jenson. Charity Dingle is a fictional character from the British soap opera Emmerdale, played by Emma Atkins. Suranne Jones originally auditioned for the role of Charity, before Atkins was cast. The actress began filming her first scenes in February 2000, and she made her first screen appearance as Charity during the episode broadcast on 30 March 2000. Actress Mica Proctor played a young Charity in a flashback episode about the character's past, which aired on 29 May 2018.
Rosemary King is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Emmerdale, played by Linda Thorson. She first appeared on 23 March 2006 and became one of the show's central antagonists until her departure on 13 September 2007; the character was later killed-off screen on Christmas Day 2007.
Storylines of Emmerdale, the British ITV soap opera, have spanned more than five decades, from the programme's inception in October 1972 until the present day. Emmerdale Village's 500th anniversary was a pivotal and historical episode for the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. It first aired on 17 May 2007 on ITV1 in England and Wales, on UTV in Northern Ireland, STV in Scotland and on TV3 in the Republic of Ireland, simultaneously.
Tom King is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Emmerdale, who appeared on the show from 29 February 2004 before being killed off on 25 December 2006 in a long-running "whodunit" storyline dubbed Who Killed Tom King?. He was last seen on 27 December 2006 as a dead body in a morgue. Throughout his time on the show he was portrayed by Kenneth Farrington. Farrington decided to leave the show in 2006 but reprised the role briefly as a ghost in a "Text Santa" special on 20 December 2013.
James Frederick “Jimmy” King is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, played by Nick Miles. He made his first appearance on 19 February 2004 and has appeared on the show ever since. Introduced alongside brothers Matthew, Max and Carl, as well as his father Tom, Jimmy has evolved from a hard, cold businessman to a devoted husband and a comical character. This personality transformation followed the deaths of all his brothers in 2005, 2008 and 2012 respectively, his father's demise in 2006 and a marriage to Nicola Blackstock.
