Safar Raj Hossain is a retired civil servant, former Home Affairs Secretary, [1] [2] and chairman of the Police Administration Reform Commission formed by the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. [3] He is a former director general of the office of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. [4] He is the former secretary of the Local Government Division. [5]
Hossain graduated from Bogra Zilla School. [6] He completed his master's in physics at the University of Rajshahi in 1971. [6] He finished his law degree in 1973. He completed a masters in public administration at the Harvard University in 1981. [6]
Hossain joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1977. [6]
Hossain was the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Comilla District in 2001. [6] He was then appointed the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. [6] In 2003, while serving as the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office under Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. [4]
From 14 October 2003 to 20 March 2005, Hossain was the secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration. [6] He was then appointed secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. [6] In June 2005, he was sued in a murder case filed by the mother of a Jubo League activist who was killed in a crossfire by Rapid Action Battalion. [7]
Hossain served as the secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs till 2006. [6] He inaugurated a conference of police chiefs of SAARC countries in Dhaka in May 2006. [8] He was made the Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives in October 2006 after President Iajuddin Ahmed formed a neutral caretaker government to hold general elections. [9] Secretary of the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives S. M. Jahirul Islam was in return made the secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. [9] He oversaw the start of the Banani-Gulshan Bridge construction. [10]
From 2009 to 2011, Hossain was a consultant of the United States Agency for International Development. [6] In 2010, he was a director of the Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited. [6] He is an independent director of Federal Insurance Company. [6]
After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government, Hossain was appointed head of a newly created Police Administration Reform Commission. [6] [11] The commission included Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed, ASM Nasiruddin Elan, Md Golam Rasul, Mohammad Harun Chowdhury, Mohammad Iqbal, Sheikh Sajjad Ali, and Shahnaz Huda. [6] One of the first recommendation was removal of political background check from the hiring process of police officers. [12]

She was the first female prime minister of Bangladesh and second female prime minister in the Muslim world, after Benazir Bhutto. She is the widow of one of the former president of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman. She is the chairperson and leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since 1984, which was founded by her husband in 1978.

Hawa Bhaban, also rendered as Hawa Bhavan, or Hawa Bhawan, is the political office of the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, and monitors party affairs on the chair's behalf. It was viewed as an "alternate power house" in Bangladesh when BNP was in power from 2001 to 2006. It became controversial during the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis when the party joint secretary was Tarique Rahman, son and heir apparent of the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party Khaleda Zia. Some government officials maintained regular contact with viya (Tareq) to manipulate administrative matters such as promotion, posting, appointment etc. in different ministries and divisions. This resulted in a parallel government being administered from Hawa Bhaban.
The 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina, the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. Hasina also sustained some injuries in the attack.

Major Muhammad Raihanul Abedin is a former military officer of the Bangladesh Army and an energy, power and utilities engineer. He was the former PSC director of the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation. Working on behalf of the government of Bangladesh, he oversaw all energy production treaties with various foreign energy companies, including Enron Corporation, Niko Resources, and Tullow Oil.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is a Bangladeshi politician. He has been the secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since 2016. He was a member of the parliament for Thakurgaon-1 constituency from 2001 to 2006. In that term, he was also appointed the Minister of State in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and later Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Khondkar Delwar Hossain was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician. He served as the secretary general of the party. He was elected five times as a Member of Parliament from constituency Manikganj-1 (Ghior-Doulatpur).
Qamrul Islam is an Awami League politician. He is a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Dhaka-2 constituency, and also a former minister of food from 2014 to 2018. Islam was the state minister of law, justice and parliamentary affairs in the second Hasina cabinet.
The Zia Charitable Trust corruption case refers a corruption case in Bangladesh that relates to corruption over the misuse of funds in a charity named after former President Ziaur Rahman. Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh was one of the accused in the case. On 27 November 2024, Zia and all the accused were acquitted by the court.
Jatiya Oikya Front was a Bangladesh-based political alliance of primarily four parties led by Kamal Hossain. The front officially declared its formation on October 13, 2018, at the National Press Club ahead of the national election.

Advocate Khandaker MahbubHossain was a Bangladeshi lawyer and politician. In 1973, he was the chief prosecutor of the court set up to try war criminals under 'Dalal' Act. Served as Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association President and Supreme Court Bar Council Vice Chairman. He was known as a criminal law expert in Bangladesh.
Enam Ahmed Chowdhury is a retired secretary and former chairman of the Privatization Commission. He is an Awami League politician and former Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician.
Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey is a Bangladeshi journalist and diplomat. In 21 October 2024, the Ministry of Public Administration of Yunus' interim government appointed him as ambassador for three years. He is a Senior Secretary of Bangladesh government and Washington DC–based Bangladeshi journalist known for asking questions at the press briefings of the United States Department of State. He is a permanent correspondent of the United Nation headquarters. He was the assistant press secretary to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. He was a well known critic of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Md Jahangir Alam is the former secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was forced into retirement and detained after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government. He is a former secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
Shahnaz Huda is a law professor at the University of Dhaka. She is the former chairman of the Department of Law of the University of Dhaka. She is a member of the Police Reform Commission of the Muhmmad Yunus led interim government of Bangladesh.
