Saidu Sharif Airport( IATA : SDT, ICAO : OPSS) is an airport in Pakistan. It is situated near the Swat River and between the villages of Dherai and Kanju in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The airport was built in 1978, and two daily flights were available to Peshawar and Islamabad before the airport was shut down during the First Battle of Swat in 2007. There were hopes of reopening the airport in 2012. [1] However, this reopening was repeatedly delayed due to the security situation. Nevertheless, after a hiatus of 17 years, the flight operation at the airport resumed in March 2021. [2]

Visitors traveling to Swat Valley and the Malam Jabba ski resort during the summer season use this airport to reach Swat District.

Miangul Jahan Zeb HPk, HQA, CIE, also known as Miangul Abdul-Haq Jahan Zeb, was the Wāli of Swat from 1949 to 1969, a princely state that is now part of Pakistan. He succeeded his father, Wadud of Swat. He is remembered for building schools, hospitals, and roads, but also for his absolute rule over the region, which ended in 1969. When Pakistan came into being, Wadud of Swat declared the accession of Swat State to Pakistan on 23 November 1947. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Governor-General of Pakistan, accepted the Instrument of Accession on 24 November 1947. Wadud of Swat announced his resignation in favor of his son Jehanzeb. Jahanzeb also worked to protect the landmarks of previous cultures.

State of Swat was a state established in 1849 by the Muslim saint Saidu Baba, also known as Akhund of Swat, and was ruled by Walis of Swat. He served in the National Assembly of Pakistan and as governor of Balochistan and subsequently as governor of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Marghuzar, translated as "green land", contains green valleys, cold springs, and mountains, including the Elum Ghar mountain. In 1940, the then Wali of Swat, Miangul Abdul Wadud, decided to build a summer residence there for himself which became the summer capital of Swat. The palace was named Sufed Mahal, translated as The White Palace. The palace has since been converted into a hotel. Marghuzar has a 200-year-old colossal chinar tree, which serves as a canopy for visitors. There is also a middle school and one primary school for boys and girls each, but there aren't any hospitals or clinics.

The Saidu Sharif Stupa, excavated under the name Saidu Sharif I, is a Buddhist stupa located near the city of Saidu Sharif, at the foot of the mountains that separate the river valley Saidu from that of the river Jambil, in the Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The sacred area consists of two terraces built on the slope of the hill, through a cut in the rock on the north side. Artificial terracing includes one stūpa, surrounded by smaller monuments, and a monastery.

Sana Ullah Khan Niazipscafwc also known as Soldiers’ General, was a two-star rank general in the Pakistan Army serving as G.O.C 17th Division (Malakand) when he was assassinated in a roadside blast. He was posthumously awarded the Sitara-e-Basalat and Hilal-i-Imtiaz on Pakistan Day in 2014 and 2015.
