Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad. With the exception of 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1980 consisted of a total of six sailing classes (disciplines). For each class seven races were scheduled from 19 to 29 July 1980 of the coast of Tallinn, in that time an illegally annexed part of the USSR at the Baltic Sea. The sailing was done on the triangular type Olympic courses.

The Finn was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 1980 Summer Olympics program in Tallinn, USSR. The Finn dinghy is the men's single-handed, cat-rigged Olympic class for sailing. Seven races were scheduled; 21 sailors, on 21 boats, from 21 nations competed.

Jan Cornelis "Kees" Douze" was a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his native country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Kiel, Germany. Kees took the 23rd place in the Finn. Later he specialized in the Star, Dutch national classes as well at the 12 foot dinghy. In 1980 Douze returned to the Olympics as substitute helmsman for the Dutch Star.

Bernard "Ben" Staartjes was a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Kiel, Germany. With crew Cees Kurpershoek he took the 5th place in the Tempest. In 1976 Staartjes represent the Netherlands again in the Tempest. This time with crew Ab Ekels They took 8th place. Later Staartjes specialized in the Star.

Geert Alle Bakker was a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. With crew Pieter Keijzer and Harald de Vlaming Bakker took the 5th place in the Soling. Since in 1980 The Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Bakker again in the Soling represented his National Olympic Committee under the Dutch NOC flag. This time with crew Dick Coster and his son Steven Bakker They took again 5th place.

Sjoerd Steven Vollebregt is a sailor from the Netherlands who represented his native country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Kingston, Ontario. With twin brother Erik Vollebregt as helmsman, Vollebregt finished 14th in the Sailing at the 1976 Summer Olympics – Flying Dutchman. Since in 1980 the Netherlands boycotted the Moscow Olympics, Vollebregt represented his National Olympic Committee under the Dutch NOC flag in the Flying Dutchman. Again with his brother as helmsman, he took 7th place.

Jan Erik Vollebregt is a sailor from the Netherlands who represented his native country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Kingston, Ontario. With twin brother Sjoerd Vollebregt as crew, Vollebregt finished 14th in the Sailing at the 1976 Summer Olympics – Flying Dutchman. Since in 1980 the Netherlands boycotted the Moscow Olympics, Vollebregt represented his National Olympic Committee under the Dutch NOC flag in the Flying Dutchman. Again with his brother as crew, he took 7th place.

Steven Feico Alle Bakker is a sailor from the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Bakker represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was boycotted by several countries, in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. With his father Geert Bakker as helmsman and fellow crew member Dick Coster, Bakker took the 5th place in the Soling. In the 1988 Olympics in Pusan Bakker made his second Olympic appearance. This time as helmsman in the Dutch Star with Kobus Vandenberg as crew. They took 9th place.

Benedictus Antonius Maria "Dick" Coster is a sailor from the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Coster represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. With Geert Bakker as helmsman and fellow crew member Steven Bakker, Coster took the 5th place in the Soling. During the 1976 Olympics Coster was substitute for the Dutch Soling team.

Since the Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Vandenberg represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was boycotted by several countries, in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. With Boudewijn Binkhorst as helmsman, Vandenberg took the 6th place in the Star. In the 1988 Olympics in Pusan Vandenberg made his second Olympic appearance. Again in the Dutch Star this time with Steven Bakker as helmsman. They took 9th place.

Govert Jacob Willem Brasser is a sailor from the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Brasser represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was boycotted by several countries, in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. With Willem van Walt Meijer as helmsman, Brasser took the 5th place in the Tornado.

Hendrik Maarten "Henk" van Gent is a sailor from the Netherlands. A physical education teacher by training, he runs a sailing school in Rotterdam.

Johannes Willem "Jan Willem" van den Hondel is a sailor from the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands boycotted the Moscow Olympic Games Van den Hondel represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics, which several countries boycotted, in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. With Henk van Gent as helmsman, Van den Hondel took the 4th place in the 470.

Frank de Vos is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Kingston, Ontario, Canada as substitute for the Dutch Flying Dutchman team of Erik Vollebregt and Sjoerd Vollebregt. In 1980 De Vos returned to the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was boycotted by several countries, as substitute for the Dutch Flying Dutchman.
