Sam Kito III (born 1964) is an American politician from Alaska. A Democrat,he served in the Alaska House of Representatives as one of two representatives from Juneau since his appointment in 2014 until 2019.
A lobbyist and civil engineer by trade,Kito was appointed to serve out the term of Beth Kerttula in House District 32 after she resigned in early 2014. Governor Sean Parnell selected him in February from among three nominees forwarded by the Tongass Democrats,passing over Juneau Assemblyman Jesse Kiehl and Juneau School District budget committeewoman Catherine Reardon. [1] [2] He was sworn in on February 26,2014,and joined the Democratic-led minority caucus. [3] [4]
After his appointment,Kito ran for election to a full term in House District 33 (due to redistricting) and won in a landslide over Republican Peter Dukowitz. [5]
When the legislature eliminated per diem payments for any legislator who lived within 50 miles of the state capital of Juneau,he concluded he could not keep his daughter in college on his small legislative salary,so did not run for reelection. His compensation would have been cut from $82,488 to $50,400. [6]
Kito was born in Anchorage and lives in Juneau. He is of Tlingit and Japanese heritage. [7] He has a teenage daughter. [3] His father,Sam Kito,Jr.,is a long time lobbyist. He is named for his grandfather,Sam Kito,Sr.,a resident of Petersburg who was interned in a U.S. government camp in Idaho during World War II. [8]
The City and Borough of Juneau,more commonly known simply as Juneau,is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alaska. Sean Randall Parnell is an American attorney and politician who was the tenth governor of Alaska from 2009 to 2014. He succeeded Sarah Palin in July 2009,and was elected governor in his own right in 2010 with 59.06% of the vote,as the largest percentage margin of any Alaska governor since statehood. In 2014,he narrowly lost his bid for re-election and returned to work in the private sector. He is a member of the Republican Party.

A member of the Democratic Party,he previously served as the mayor of Juneau from February 13,1995,to October 3,2000,and was a member of the local assembly prior to that. Outside of politics,he was known for his work as a radio broadcaster,most notably for KINY,and was inducted to the Alaskan Broadcaster Association's Hall of Fame in 2001.

A member of the Democratic Party,Kerttula was the longest-serving member of the Alaska Legislature,having served in the House from 1961 to 1963 and 1965 to 1973 and in the Senate from 1973 to 1995.,until his record was surpassed by Lyman Hoffman in 2019.

Muñoz was a third-generation member of the Alaska Legislature. Her father served in the Alaska House and Senate,her grandfather as the mayor of Douglas,Alaska and in the Territorial and State Senates,and her grandmother served in the Territorial House.
William A. Thomas Jr. is a businessman,commercial fisherman,and politician from the U.S. state of Alaska. Thomas served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives from the 5th District,comprising scattered rural and semi-rural communities throughout Southeast Alaska and stretching westward to Prince William Sound,from 2005 to 2013. Thomas served in the majority his entire tenure in the House and held multiple chairmanships. Thomas gained a seat on the powerful House Finance Committee during his second term and would eventually co-chair the committee. Following redistricting,Thomas lost reelection in 2012 by 32 votes to 23-year-old Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins,a political newcomer who left Yale University to run.

Carl Eugene Moses was an American businessman from Unalaska,Alaska who served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1965 to 1973 as both a Republican and Democrat,and was elected again to the House in 1992 running on the Alaskan Independence Party ticket,later switched back to the Democrats,and served until 2007. Moses served a total of eleven full terms in the Alaska House,making him the longest-serving member in the history of that body. Voters in the 40 districts of the Alaska House of Representatives elected their representatives,in conjunction with state senate elections and the biennial United States elections for federal offices.
The 2022 Alaska Senate elections took place on November 8,2022,with the primary elections being held on August 16,2022. State senators serve four-year terms in the Alaska Senate,with half of the seats normally up for election every two years. However,because most districts were greatly changed in redistricting,elections were held for 19 of the 20 seats;the only exception is District T,represented by Democrat Donny Olson,which was mostly unchanged in redistricting and thus did not have an election. Some senators were elected to serve four-year terms,while others would serve shortened two-year terms.
