Samajwadi Alliance (SP+; [5] English: Socialist Alliance), was a major political alliance led by the Samajwadi Party in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. [6] [7] [ circular reference ]

2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election

RLD was the first to join the alliance. The NCP and RJD too joined the alliance later. [8] Various other smaller parties too joined while SBSP broke away from its alliance to join SP alliance. [9] During the first seat sharing talks, SP agreed to give RLD 36 seats. Initially, RLD demanded 60 seats while SP were willing to give up to 30, later both the parties finalised at 33 with RLD mostly competing in West UP. RLD gave 8 symbol of SP candidates. [10] Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party began talks for alliance, [11] [12] however they couldn't agree on seat sharing. [13] Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya) joined the alliance later. On 13 January 2022, the alliance announced its initial candidates for the first few phases of the election. [14] SP and SBSP would have a friendly fight on 1 seat while SP and AD(K) would have a friendly fight on 2 seats.[ citation needed ]

2024 Parliamentary election

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that his party will ally with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. [15] Akhilesh Yadav said that the Gathbandhan will contest all 80 seats in 2024 election and detailed elaboration regarding alliance will be made at the end of 2023. [16]

However, soon Akhilesh Yadav joined with the Indian National Congress to form the INDIA to contest the 2024 polls together. [17] The alliance got landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh winning 43 out of 80 seats.

Yadav is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kannauj in the 18th Lok Sabha and the parliamentary party leader of Samajwadi Party in 18th Lok Sabha. A son of veteran Indian politician, Mulayam Singh Yadav, he was elected as the Member of the 13th Lok Sabha in the year 2000 ( by-poll) for the Kannauj constituency. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is a big tent multi-party political alliance of several political parties in India led by the country's largest opposition party, the Indian National Congress. The alliance is in opposition to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Indian general elections. In the 2024 general election, the alliance won 234 seats, gaining more than 100 seats from dissolution, and the majority of seats in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. The BJP lost its sole majority, with the alliance forcing Modi to govern with his coalition, the NDA.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly by-elections</span>

By-elections to thirteen state assembly constituencies were held in Uttar Pradesh on 13 May 2024 for four seats and on 20 November 2024 for 9 seats. The results were announced on 4 June for 4 seats and 23 November for the rest of the seats. BJP, the ruling party won 8 out of 13 seats and its ally RLD won 1 seat. The Samajwadi Party won four.
