Chaudhary Jayant Singh (born 27 December 1978), better known as Jayant Chaudhary [2] is an Indian politician who serving as 5th Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship since 2024. He is Member of the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh since 2022. Previously, he also served as a member of 15th Lok Sabha from Mathura. He is the National Chairman of the Rashtriya Lok Dal.

On 1 March 2024, Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal formally joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). [3]

Early life and education

He was born in Dallas, Texas, United States, to Chaudhary Ajit Singh and Radhika Singh in a Hindu family. He is the grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh, former prime minister of India. [4]

He graduated from Sri Venkateswara College of the Delhi University and in 2002 received a master's degree in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science. [5] [6] [4]

Career

He started his political career in 2009, when he won as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was one of the prime movers on Land Acquisition issue and had introduced a Private Member Bill on Land Acquisition in the Lok Sabha. [7] Jayant Singh Chaudhary was a member of the Standing Committee on Commerce, the Consultative Committee on Finance, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and the Committee on Government Assurances. He has served previously on the Standing Committees on Agriculture and Finance as well as the Committee on Ethics.

In July 2022, he was elected a member of the Rajya Sabha as a candidate of the Rashtriya Lok Dal. [8]

Personal life

Jayant Chaudhary is married to fashion designer Charu Singh, with whom he has two children. He is the grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh, former prime minister of India and son of Chaudhary Ajit Singh, former union minister. [9]

Historically, the family has a farming background. His grandfather, Charan Singh, participated in the Indian Independence Movement and was an active member of Arya Samaj since the 1930s. [10]

Sompal Shastri or Sompal Singh Shastri born on 20 January 1942 in a Farmer-Jat family and began his career as a politician of Rashtriya Lok Dal from Uttar Pradesh India. He has been Minister for Agriculture for the national government and a member of the Planning Commission. He is Vice Chairman, State Planning Board, Madhya Pradesh.

Although India is a parliamentary democracy, the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism, possibly due to the absence of party organizations, independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party, or centralized financing of elections. Virendra Verma was an Indian politician, born in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. He served as the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh (1990) as well as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh (1990–1993).

Sanjay Singh Chauhan was an Indian politician. He was the active member of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and was a member of Parliament representing Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh state in the 15th Lok Sabha. He was also a Member of State Legislative Assembly, Uttar Pradesh from 1996 to 2001.

Begum Tabassum Hasan is a Samajwadi Party political activist, former Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from the Kairana Lok Sabha Constituency in Uttar Pradesh, and wife of former MP late Chaudhary Munawwar Hasan. She has been with Bahujan Samaj Party, Ajit Singh's Lok Dal, and Samajwadi Party.

Lokdal or Lok Dal is an Indian political party based on agriculture policies, founded by former prime minister of India Charan Singh. It was founded on 26 September 1979 by merging Janata Party (Secular), Socialist Party (Limaye) and Orissa Janata Party. Gayatri Devi was an Indian politician and spouse of 5th Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh. She served as Member of 7th Lok Sabha from Kairana Lok Sabha constituency and Member of 5th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Iglas Assembly constituency. She was only first lady MLA from Mathura.
