Puerto Rico, officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and from 1898 to 1932 also called Porto Rico in English, is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the northeast Caribbean Sea, approximately 1,000 miles (1,600 km) southeast of Miami, Florida.

The Centrobasket is a FIBA-sponsored international basketball tournament where national teams from Central America and the Caribbean participate. These countries make up the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA). The top three or four Women's National teams typically earn berths to the FIBA Women's AmeriCup, from which they can qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup or Summer Olympics. Teams qualify for these tournaments by finishing high in the previous Centrobasket or by placing high at the FIBA COCABA Championship for Mexico and the seven Central American countries and at the FIBA CBC Championship for the 23 Caribbean countries. In total, 31 countries have an opportunity to qualify their national teams for Centrobasket, yet all of them do not enter teams regularly.

Selected constitutional provisions apply, depending on congressional acts and judicial rulings according to U.S. constitutional practice, local tradition, and law. As such, these territories are often considered colonies of the United States.
The 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Americas, for the 2014 FIBA World Cup, in Spain. This FIBA AmeriCup tournament was held in Caracas, Venezuela, from August 30, to September 11, 2013. The top four teams qualified for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Cruce a Nado Internacional is a yearly international swimming competition that takes place at Bahía de Ponce in Ponce, Puerto Rico. It is the oldest open water swimming event in the Caribbean. The event generally occurs on the first Sunday of September, to coincide with the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend every year. The event is sponsored by Club Cruce a Nado, Inc. Some 100 athletes compete. The event started in 1980.
Crocidocnemis pellucidalis is a moth in the family Crambidae. It was described by Möschler in 1890. It is found in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica, Brazil and Argentina. It is also found in the southern United States, where it has been recorded from Florida and Texas.
Neoleucinodes prophetica, the potato tree borer, is a moth in the family Crambidae. It was described by Harrison Gray Dyar Jr. in 1914. It is found in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago and Brazil. It is also present in southern Florida.
Omiodes humeralis is a moth in the family Crambidae. It was described by Achille Guenée in 1854. It is found in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica and Argentina.

Alvin Cruz is a professional basketball player who played for the Niagara University men's university basketball team from 2001 to 2005. He is currently playing in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cruz played with the Puerto Rico U21 National Team-01 and Puerto Rico National Team-05 as well as in several different professional teams overseas.
The Americas Zone was the unique zone within Group 3 of the regional Davis Cup competition in 2019. The zone's competition was held in round robin format in Escazú, Costa Rica, from 17 to 22 June 2019.
