The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public,deemed,research university for higher education and research in science,engineering,design,and management. It is located in the southern Indian city of Bangalore,Karnataka. The institute was established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata and thus is also locally known as the Tata Institute. It was granted a deemed university status in 1958 and recognized as an Institute of Eminence in 2018.

He is a professor at the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering,and has served as the Chairperson of the Electrical Sciences Division at the Indian Institute of Science,before being appointed as the Director in 2014.

Dr. Krishnaswamy Vijay Raghavan is an emeritus professor and former director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences. On 26 March 2018,the Government of India appointed him as the principal scientific adviser to succeed Dr. R Chidamabaram. His term as Principal Scientific Adviser ended on 2 April 2022. In 2012,he was elected a fellow of The Royal Society and in April 2014 he was elected as a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences. He was conferred the Padma Shri on 26 January 2013 and is also a recipient of the Infosys Prize in the life sciences category in 2009.
Mohan Rao Chintalagiri is an Indian molecular biologist renowned for his contributions to the fields of biophysics and molecular biology. He has earned international recognition for his work on molecular chaperones as well as his contribution to the field of photoacoustic spectroscopy in health and disease. He is currently a Senior Professor Emeritus and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at the Hyderabad campus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science,Pilani. He is a former director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and served as a CSIR-Distinguished Scientist. He received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1999,the highest science honor in India.
Avadhesha Surolia is a glycobiologist at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc),Bangalore. He was born in Kishangarh,Rajasthan,India. Presently,he is an honorary professor at the Molecular Biophysics Unit,IISc and holds the Bhatnagar fellowship of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He is known for his work on lectin structure and interactions,orientation and dynamics of cell surface carbohydrate receptors and protein folding,diabetes,antimalarials and anti-cancer agents based on curcumin,flavonoids,etc. In addition,neuropathic pain,neurodegenerative disorders and the link between immunity and obsessive–compulsive disorder are areas of his current interest
Usha Vijayraghavan is an Indian molecular biologist. She is on the faculty of the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology,at the Indian Institute of Science. Her major research interests are Molecular Genetics,Plant Development.

V. Nagaraja is a Professor,Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology,Indian Institute of Science,Bengaluru. He had received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in the year 1973 and 1975 from the Bangalore University. He completed his Ph.D. in 1981 from Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology at IISc and the work on mycobacteriophage I3 and role of DNA gyrase in mycobacteria set the stage for his later work when he joined the Institute as an assistant professor in 1989. After his PhD in 1981,he was a research associate at Biozentrum,University of Basel,Switzerland (1981–85) and at Department of Biology,University of Rochester,USA(1985–89). He joined in 1989 as an assistant professor,in Centre for Genetic Engineering,IISc and was involved in setting up of the department. He became an associate professor in 1995 at Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology,IISc,Professor in 2000 and served as professor and chairman of the department (2008–2013). He has been appointed president of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments with effect from 14 October 2015.
Kanakaraj Sekar is an Indian bioinformatician and a professor at the Department of Computational and Data Sciences of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Known for his studies in the field of bioinformatics,Sekar heads the Laboratory for Structural Biology and Bio-computing at IISc. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development,one of the highest Indian science awards,for his contributions to biosciences in 2004.
Kumaravel Somasundaram is an Indian cancer biologist and a professor at the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology of the Indian Institute of Science. Known for his studies on the therapeutics of Glioblastoma,Somasunderam is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies namely,the National Academy of Sciences,India,the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development,one of the highest Indian science awards,for his contributions to biosciences in 2006.
Utpal Shashikant Tatu is an Indian molecular biologist,biochemist,a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science. He is known for his research on infectious diseases including Malaria,Bebesiosis,Giardiasis,Trypanosomosis,Trichomonosis,Rabies and other neglected tropical diseases of global relevance. He is one of the first proponents of "One Health" concept to control infectious disease outbreaks. The 'One Health' approach advocates designing and implementing strategies,policies and carrying out scientific research which involves collaboration between multiple sectors that will lead to major public health outcomes.Tatu is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development,one of the highest Indian science awards,for his contributions to biosciences in 2008.

Ashok M. Raichur is an Indian materials scientist,nanotechnologist and a professor at the Department of Materials Engineering of the Indian Institute of Science,Bangalore. Known for his studies on the use of nanotechnology for biomedical and environmental applications,Raichur is a former Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and a life member of the National Academy of Sciences,India. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development,one of the highest Indian science awards,for his contributions to biosciences,in 2009.
Professor Maneesha Inamdar is a stem cell and developmental biologist conducting research at Bangalore,India. She is presently Director of inStem,India’s first stem cell institute. Chandrima Shaha is an Indian biologist. As of September 2021,she is the J. C. Bose Chair Distinguished Professor at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology,Kolkata. She is the former Director and former Professor of Eminence at the National Institute of Immunology. She was the President of Indian National Science Academy (2020–22) and the Vice President of the same academy (2016–2018). She is an elected fellow of the World Academy of Sciences,Indian National Science Academy,Indian Academy of Sciences,National Academy of Sciences and the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology.
Patrick D'Silva is an Indian cell biologist,biochemist,and an associate professor at the Molecular Chaperone Lab of the Indian Institute of Science. He is known for his medical discoveries related to neurodegenerative diseases and cancer biology. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development,one of the highest Indian science awards,for his contributions to biosciences,in 2014.
Ganesh Nagaraju is an Indian biochemist,geneticist,cancer biologist and a full professor at the Department of Biochemistry of the Indian Institute of Science. He has been studying DNA damage responses in mammalian cells,and mechanisms underlying chromosome instability genetic diseases and cancer. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development,for his contributions to biosciences,in 2015. In 2018,Nagaraju received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Biological Sciences from CSIR. This award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to Science and Technology,and is considered one of the highest awards for science in India.
