Nkome Sarah Monyamane is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. She was formerly the Mayor of Mookgophong Local Municipality from 2011 to 2016. [1] [2]

Political career

Mayor of Mookgophong Local Municipality

The ANC nominated her as its mayoral candidate after the 2011 local elections. [3] Towards the end of her five-year mayoral term, in March 2016, the municipality was wracked with violent service delivery protests in which protesters called for her to resign as mayor. At least 22 people were arrested on public violence charges; several structures were set alight, including houses belonging to a councillor and to one of Monyamane's relatives; and one person was reportedly fatally shot. In the 2016 local elections later that year, the ANC lost the mayoral seat in the municipality (newly amalgamated as Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality) to the opposition Democratic Alliance and Monyamane was succeeded as mayor by Marlene van Staden, [6] though she remained an ordinary local councillor. [7]

Limpopo Provincial Legislature

She left the council in the 2019 general election when she was elected to her seat in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, ranked 34th on the ANC's party list. [8]

Monyamane was also a prominent member of the ANC's regional branch in Waterberg. In July 2018, she was elected as Deputy Regional Secretary of the branch, serving under Regional Secretary Jacob Moabelo and Regional Chairperson Morris Mataboge. [9] [10] Ahead of the party's next regional elective conference in 2022, the Sowetan reported that she was expected to stand for election as Regional Chairperson. [11] However, when the conference took place in July 2022, she did not stand for the chairmanship and she was succeeded as Deputy Regional Secretary by Aaron Mokgehle. [12]

ANC National Executive election

Later that year she was nominated to stand for election to the ANC's National Executive Committee; by number of branch nominations received, she was ranked 143rd of the top 200 nominees. [13] However, when the party's 55th National Conference took place, she was not elected to the 80-member body.

She was then appointed Shadow Deputy Minister of Social Development. After the 2019 election, she became the Shadow Deputy Minister of Health. Wilson was sworn in as a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in August 2023.

Marlene van Staden was a South African politician who was the mayor of the Modimolle–Mookgophong Local Municipality from 2016 to 2023. She was a member of the Democratic Alliance.

Chritian Nkakareng Rakgoale is a South African politician. As of June 2022, she has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in the Limpopo provincial government. She previously served as the MEC for Social Development from May 2019 to June 2022. Rakgoale was elected to the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in May 2019. Before that, she served as the Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality. Rakgoale is a member of the African National Congress.

Namane Dickson Masemola is a South African politician who has been a Delegate to the National Council of Provinces since October 2022. Between 2009 and 2022, he was a Member of the Provincial Legislature in the Limpopo provincial government, representing the African National Congress (ANC), and held a variety of positions in the Limpopo Executive Council.

Thandi Moraka is a South African politician who is currently serving as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature. She was Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Arts and Culture in the Limpopo provincial government between July 2018 and October 2022. She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and in 2022 was elected to a five-year term on the party's National Executive Committee. She formerly served as Deputy Secretary-General of the ANC Youth League from 2015 to 2019 and as a member of the Limpopo ANC's Provincial Executive Committee from 2018 to 2022.

Rodgers Basikopo Makamu is a South African politician who is currently serving as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs in the Limpopo provincial government. He was formerly MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development between 2018 and 2019. A teacher by training and a member of the African National Congress (ANC), Makamu was elected to a second term as Deputy Provincial Secretary of the ANC's Limpopo branch in June 2022.

Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana is a South African politician who is currently serving as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Arts and Culture in the Limpopo provincial government. She was appointed to that position in October 2022, shortly after she was elected Provincial Treasurer of the Limpopo branch of her political party, the African National Congress (ANC). She was first elected as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in the 2019 general election and before that was Mayor of Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality from August 2016 until December 2018, when the ANC asked her to resign during the corruption scandal at VBS Mutual Bank.

Makoma Grace Makhurupetje is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2014. She formerly served as Limpopo's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport and Community Safety from 2017 to 2019 and as MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs from 2014 to 2017. From 2014 to 2018, she was the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the ANC's Limpopo branch.

Bertha Amanda Joyce Matshoge, commonly known as Joy Matshoge, was a South African politician who served as Limpopo's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture and Rural Development from May 2014 until her death in June 2016. Before that, from 2013 to 2014, she was the Deputy Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, where she had represented the African National Congress (ANC) since 2008. At the time of her death, she was also the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Women's League in Limpopo, a position to which she had been elected in September 2015.

Falaza Philemon Mdaka is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2014. He was formerly the Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality from 2007 to 2011 and served as Regional Chairperson of the ANC's Vhembe branch for two terms until 2012.

Matjie Lehlogonolo Alfred Masoga is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2019. He was Limpopo's Member of the Executive Council for Roads and Transport from July 2013 to May 2014 and he subsequently served as Deputy Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. He rose to prominence as the Provincial Chairperson of the Limpopo branch of the ANC Youth League, although he was expelled from the league in July 2010 after falling out with league president Julius Malema.

Leswafo Joshua Matlou is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. He was formerly the Mayor of Mopani District Municipality from 2009 until 2014, when the ANC asked him to resign. He also served as the chairperson of the ANC's influential Mopani branch from 2009 to 2013 and before that was the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Youth League in Limpopo.

Essob Mmanoko Mokgonyana, sometimes misspelled Essop Mokgonyane, is a South African politician and trade unionist who has served as Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. He represents the African National Congress (ANC) in that capacity. He previously chaired the Limpopo branch of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), an ANC ally, from 2012 to 2019.

Mmamora Lilliet Mamaregane is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since October 2022. Before that she served in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) since 2019. She is an active member and former Provincial Secretary of the ANC Women's League in Limpopo.

Funani Jerry Maseko is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. He was elected to his seat in the 2019 general election, ranked 11th on the ANC's party list.

Nkholo Victor "Tolly" Mashamaite is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2018. He formerly served as Chairperson of Committees in the legislature from May 2019 until August 2021, when he was charged with corruption and stepped aside. He served on the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC's Limpopo branch from 2018 to 2022.

Wisani Goodman Mitileni, sometimes also spelled Mtileni, is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2021. He resigned from the legislature after being elected Regional Secretary of the ANC's Mopani branch in June 2021. Less than a year later, in March 2022, he was elected as Provincial Chairperson of the Limpopo branch of the South African Communist Party (SACP).

Pule Josiah Shayi is a South African politician who has served as the mayor of Mopani District Municipality since 2019. Before that, he was Mayor of Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality from 2016 to 2019. He is best known as the Regional Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Mopani region, an office he has held since 2017.
