The Sawblade EP (also called the Buzzsaw EP) is a handmade CD-R made by Isis for their tour with Neurosis and Candiria, limited to 200 copies (the first 40 with red blade inserts, the remaining 160 with black). It was sold at these shows at a limit of 15 per night, and the leftover copies were given to friends of the band as a year-end "thank you" gift. [1] The vinyl run of this release was limited to 250 copies. [2] As such, Aaron Turner doesn't consider this an 'official' Isis release, describing it as “more like a special artifact for us and the few converts we had at the time”. [3]

Contents

"Emission of the Signal" and "House of Low Culture" were both constructed by Aaron Turner and Jeff Caxide at home. [3] "Streetcleaner" and "Hand of Doom" are both covers of Godflesh and Black Sabbath, respectively. The former was recorded for Isis' 2000 split release with Pig Destroyer; both were recorded during the Red Sea sessions in 1999. [4] The CD version of the release was a genuine sawblade with a CD physically attached to it, which several venues prohibited from sale. To the best of Turner's knowledge, “no one was ever injured by one of these”. [3]

The Japanese double release of Mosquito Control/the Red Sea features both cover songs as bonuses; "Streetcleaner" appears at the end of disc 1 (Mosquito Control), and "Hand of Doom" appears at the end of disc 2 (the Red Sea/1998 Demo); both tracks were later selected for inclusion on posthumous b-side album Temporal . Isis was an American post-metal band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1997. The band borrowed from and helped to evolve the post-metal sound pioneered by bands such as Neurosis and Godflesh, characterized by lengthy songs focusing on repetition and evolution of structure. Isis's last studio album, Wavering Radiant, was released on May 5, 2009. Isis disbanded in June 2010, just before the release of a split EP with the Melvins. In 2018, the group reformed as Celestial for a one-off show to pay tribute to Caleb Scofield.

Celestial (Isis album) 2000 studio album by Isis

SGNL›05 2001 EP by Isis

SGNL›05 is an EP released by Isis which acts as an extension to their earlier full-length album Celestial, as the tracks were all directly culled from the Celestial recording sessions. Frontman Aaron Turner describes them as being “part of the same whole”, separated from each other because releasing a double album for the group's first full-length may have been overbearing for listeners.

The Mosquito Control EP 1998 EP by Isis

The Mosquito Control EP is the first studio release by American post-metal band Isis, released in 1998 by Escape Artist. The piece runs fluently through all 29 minutes, and all four songs are linked through consistent bouts of chaos and lyrics glued by the metaphor of using mosquitoes as a symbol for mankind, society, and population control.

The Red Sea (EP) 1999 EP by Isis

The Red Sea is an EP by Isis. An expansion of the sound pioneered on their previous release Mosquito Control, this EP offers a slight evolution toward the direction Isis would begin to take with their first full length, Celestial. The three songs which make up the original EP are tied together with spoken word samples from the short-lived television series Hotel Room. The song "Ochre" contains a sample from the film Dead Man by Jim Jarmusch, and is a reading of a portion of William Blake's poem "Auguries of Innocence".
