The University of Sussex is a public research university located in Falmer, Brighton, Sussex, England, it is mostly within the city boundaries of Brighton and Hove but spills into the Lewes District in its western fringe. Its large campus site is surrounded by the South Downs National Park and is around 5.5 kilometres (3.4 mi) from central Brighton. The University received its Royal Charter in August 1959, the first of the plate glass university generation, and was a founding member of the 1994 Group of research-intensive universities.

UTC@harbourside was a University Technical College for students aged 14–18 located in Newhaven, East Sussex, England which opened in September 2015. It specialised in science, technology, engineering and maths, leading to academic and vocational qualifications. The college closed in July 2019 due to financial issues and a lack of students.
