Modern Language Notes (MLN) is a peer-reviewed academic journal established in 1886 at the Johns Hopkins University, with the intention of introducing continental European literary criticism into American scholarship. It was established in 1993 as the Christian Spirituality Bulletin: Journal of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality and obtained its current title in 2001. It became an official journal of the International Girls Studies Association (IGSA) in 2019. The journal discusses girlhood from the perspective of a broad range of fields including education, health, media studies, and literary studies. Girlhood Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal received the award of Best New Journal in the Social Sciences & Humanities from the Association of American Publishers in 2009.
