The Screen Award for Best Comedian is chosen by a distinguished panel of judges from the Indian Bollywood film industry and the winners are announced in January. The award was further extended when they included a separate female category for performance in a comedian role, although this was only given once in 1996.

Hum Tum follows the encounters of two people who run into each other on several occasions under circumstances ranging from friendly to hostile to cordial to loving. Over many years and countless run-ins, the two despise each other, befriend each other, and fall in love with each other – in no particular order. The Screen Awards was an annual awards ceremony held in India honouring professional excellence in Bollywood.
