Sanjay Mishra (born 6 October 1963) is an Indian actor known for his works predominantly in Hindi cinema and television and is also known for working in Telugu cinema cinema. [2] He has twice won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his performances in the films Ankhon Dekhi (2015) and Vadh (2022) along with several other awards and nominations.
An alumnus of National School of Drama, he made his acting debut in the 1995 film Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India! . Later films include Rajkumar (1996) and Satya (1998). He also appeared as Apple Singh, an "icon" used by ESPN Star Sports during the 1999 Cricket World Cup. [3] [4] He is known for his performances both in drama and comedy genre movie productions. Mishra was born in Darbhanga in Maithil Brahmin Family, Sakri, Narayanpur, Darbhanga Bihar. [7] [8] [9] Mishra's father Shambhu Nath Mishra was an employee at the Press Information Bureau and both his grandparents were Indian civil servant. When his father got transferred he moved to Varanasi, where he studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya BHU. Mishra joined the National School of Drama and graduated in 1989. [10]
Mishra did many commercials and small movie roles before he got the opportunity to standAmitabh Bachchan in a Mirinda commercial. In 1991, on his first day of shooting the television series Chanakya, he reportedly took 28 takes. [11] The director left him with an assistant director so that he could rehearse for the shoot. His first released movie was Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India! in 1995 in which he played a small part as a harmonium player. [2]
Mishra later acted in Satya and Dil Se.. , which helped him in securing the role of Shukla, a corrupt Paan-loving employee, in the famous television sitcom Office Office. In the next few years, he acted mainly in TV serials before moving to films exclusively. He left television serials in 2005 after he got recognition for his role in Bunty Aur Babli and Apna Sapna Money Money . [2]
Mishra is known for his comic roles, although he has played more serious roles in films such as Zameen , Charas , Plan , and Satya .
In 2006, Mishra acted in and gained fame from the back-to-back hit films Golmaal: Fun Unlimited and Dhamaal . Over the next few years, he appeared in small roles in many multi-starer big banner films before getting nationwide popularity for his role as RGV in All the Best: Fun Begins and Phas Gaye Re Obama . Phas Gaye Re Obama was a serious comedy based on the recession. He directed a movie named Pranaam Walekum , which was released in January 2016, as well as Dhama Choukdhi, which also starred Dipraj Rana and model Rozlyn Khan. Besides working in the Hindi film industry, he has also acted in Bhojpuri cinema. His only Bhojpuri release to date is Rang Li Chunariya Tere Naam.
In 2014, he played the critically acclaimed role of a male protagonist in the film Ankhon Dekhi , directed by Rajat Kapoor. Mishra won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his role as Bauji, the protagonist of the film. [12] His dialogue "Dhondu, Just Chill" and comic timing in All the Best gained him wide recognition. His latest release Ankhon Dekhi proved him as a serious actor. [13] His movies Bhoothnath Returns , Kick and Dum Laga Ke Haisha all brought positive reviews. In the year, 2013, he also acted as a leading actor in the film Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga . He has worked mainly in Hindi, as well as Telugu, Bhojpuri, and Punjabi.
His films Prem Ratan Dhan Payo , Dilwale and many small budget films released in 2015, all brought him accolades.[ citation needed ] During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, he did a commercial called Mauka Mauka. [14] [15]

Satya (transl. Truth) is a 1998 Indian Hindi-language crime film, produced and directed by Ram Gopal Varma; written by Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap. It stars J. D. Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpayee, alongside Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Shrivastava and Paresh Rawal. It is the first of Varma's Gangster trilogy about organised crime in India. The film follows Satya (Chakravarthy), an immigrant who comes to Mumbai looking for a job, befriends Bhiku Mhatre (Bajpayee) and is drawn into the Mumbai underworld.

Ankhon Dekhi is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by Rajat Kapoor and produced by Manish Mundra. It stars Sanjay Mishra and Rajat Kapoor. The film was released on 21 March 2014. It was the opening film at the 8th annual Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF) 2014 in Toronto. It is Kapoor's fifth feature film and was dedicated to his idols and teachers: filmmakers Mani Kaul and Kumar Shahani. At the 2015 Screen Awards ceremony, Ankhon Dekhi won the awards for Best Supporting Actress for Seema Pahwa, Best Story and Best Ensemble Cast. The movie is based on the philosophy of empiricism. Bauji refuses to believe anything he is told unless he has seen it with his own eyes. The movie also encompasses the Derridean philosophy of deconstructing of reality.

Nirahua Hindustani is a 2014 Indian Bhojpuri-language action-romance-comedy film written by Santosh Mishra and directed by Satish Jain. Produced and distributed by Nirahua Entertainment, Rahul Khan Productions and Nirahua Music World, respectively, the film features Dinesh Lal Yadav and Amrapali Dubey in lead roles while Ayaz Khan, Gopal Rai, Kiran Yadav and Sanjay Pandey portray pivotal roles. It is a remake of the 2012 Chhattisgarhiya film "Laila Tip Top, Chhaliya Angutha Chhap" which starred Karan Khan, Sikha Chitambare and Sanjay Mahanand and he was directed by Satish Jain. The soundtrack and film score were composed by Rajesh - Rajnish. Satya Prakash was the film's cinematographer and editing was done by Santosh Harawade.

Also known by the Initialism KLY, Yadav has appeared in more than 70 films, and performed as vocalist in more than 5000 songs. Apart from Bhojpuri, he has also worked in Hindi, Awadhi and Haryanvi languages. In 2019, he participated in the reality show Bigg Boss 13.
Anaarkali of Aarah is a 2017 Indian film written and directed by debutant Avinash Das. The movie has Swara Bhaskar playing the lead role of a small-town erotic folk dancer in Arrah in Bihar. The movie revolves around her confrontation with a vice chancellor played by Sanjay Mishra. The film was released on 24 March 2017. Bhaskar received widespread acclaim for her performance and a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress (critics) at the 63rd Filmfare Awards.
The International Bhojpuri Film Award are a set of awards presented annually by Yashi Films International to honour the artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Bhojpuri film industry. Instituted in 2015, the ceremony is held in different countries around the world every year. The first year of the International Bhojpuri Film Award was commenced in 2015 at Mauritius followed by IBFA 2016 Dubai, IBFA 2017 London, IBFA 2018 Malaysia and IBFA 2019 Singapore.
