Selma is an unincorporated community in Anderson County, Kansas, United States. [1] It is located approximately four miles north-northeast of Kincaid next to a railroad.
A post office was opened in Selma in 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1956. At one time, Selma had a one room elementary school, two churches (Christian and Methodist), a blacksmith shop, a hotel, a general store, a drug store, a lumber yard, service station, and other small businesses. The town even had a physician for a short time. The town had two newspapers in its history, The Telephone (published April 1895-March 1896) and The Selma News-Herald (1965-1968). [2]
Selma was established at the junction of the Kansas, Nebraska and Dakota and the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroads in 1887. The town initially had two names, as the KN&D named its depot "Trilby," but the MKT named the location "Selma." The latter became the permanent name for the town (the KN&D discontinued its operations in 1934). The MKT maintained its depot until some time in the 1940s. Selma was once a livestock loading point on the Katy's Kansas City to Parsons line, which was purchased by the Union Pacific in 1988. The line is still active today.[ citation needed ]
Although the town lost its business district over the years, two symbols of the community remained: the Methodist Church and the School (which served as a community center after Selma Elementary School was closed and consolidated with the elementary school in Kincaid in 1964). The community had an active 4-H club and church organizations. The Methodist Church remained the central point for the community until 2001 when the declining number of parishioners forced a consolidation of the Selma church with its counterpart in nearby Kincaid. The consolidated congregation built a new church in Kincaid, and, with no need for separate facilities, the original church buildings in each community were torn down.[ citation needed ]
Today, only a handful of people live in Selma. The century-old school building, originally built in 1921, still stands.

The Blue Springs R-IV School District is a school district that serves Blue Springs, Missouri in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The district has an enrollment of over 14,500 students. The mission statement of the Blue Springs R-IV School District is to create an educational community in which each individual acquires knowledge, develops skills, and functions as a literate citizen to achieve personal goals. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reported that Blue Springs School District once again received a perfect score on the Annual Performance Report in 2011. This is the eleventh year in a row that the district has received a perfect score. This is determined by a number of factors including student achievement. The Blue Springs School District is one of only seven school districts in this state to have eleven consecutive years of distinction.

The town was founded by Plummer Ijams, a descendant of Welsh immigrants, from whom the town took its name. The discovery of high-quality slate in the area led to Ijamsville's brief era as a mining town, which lasted until it transitioned to agriculture in the mid-1800s. In the mid-to-late 20th century, large quantities of land in Ijamsville were purchased by developers, and the town became primarily residential as a suburb of Frederick, Baltimore, and D.C.

Cropper is an unincorporated community within Shelby County, Kentucky, United States. It was also known as Croppers Depot. Their post office is closed. The town of Cropper is located in northeast Shelby County, Kentucky. The origin of its name comes from the town's founder James Cropper, a blacksmith and store keeper who was the first person to build a house there sometime in the 1790s. He also was the town's first postmaster. The majority of Cropper's original citizens were members of the Low Dutch colony who were in the area as early as 1786. In 1807, a new group of settlers from Virginia increased the town's population. In 1855, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad along with a depot opened on the east end of town. A hotel soon opened afterwards. This railroad line was closed in the early 1970s. Another occurrence, in 1855, was the founding of Union Grove Church. This church had three different denominations that included Christian, Methodist and Baptist. The only cemetery in Cropper is on the church grounds. In June 1900, the Baptist separated from the Union Church, and by 1903 it had its own building. In 1967, the Union Grove Church was renamed Cropper Christian Church. In 1905, a bank was opened by Ben Allen Thomas, but it was closed in 1921. An 1882 map shows the first school in Cropper which was a large two-story building with grades one through twelve. It burned in 1951 and was replaced with a one-story elementary school. The team mascot was the Yellow Jackets.
Plum Grove is a ghost town in Butler County, Kansas, United States. It was located in a rural area north of modern-day Potwin. No buildings remain at this former community site.
