Senthil Ganesh is an Indian playback singer and actor. [1] He rose to prominence after winning the reality show, Super Singer 6, in 2018 which was aired in Star Vijay. [2] He made his acting debut with the film Thirudu Pogatha Manasu (2014).

Early life

Senthil Ganesh pursued his interest in folk music Naattupurapaattu at the age of five and started recording songs after learning the basics of the music. He learnt music from Chella Thangaiah and recorded his first song Mannuketha Raagangal at the age of 10. [3] He completed his primary and secondary education at a school in Alangudi, Pudukkottai and pursued his higher education at a musical college in Trichy. He has also conducted over 100 folk music concerts and has performed in many local cultural religious functions. [3] Senthil also received the Doctor of Letters for Tamil Literature. [4]

Career

In 2014, Senthil Ganesh was roped into play a lead role in the film Thirudu Pogatha Manasu by his music guru turned director Chella Thangaiah, and the film marked Senthil's acting debut. [5]

He then took part in Super Singer 6 along with his wife as one of 22 contestants in the season and became popular in the show for singing mostly folk songs. [6] [7] He emerged as the winner of the contest, while his wife Rajalakshmi received a consolation prize. [8] After taking part in the contest, he received film opportunities [9] and collaborated with director Chella Thangaiah for the second time and played the lead role in Karimugan (2018). [10] [11] [12] [13] It was initially reported that Senthil Ganesh would make his playback singing debut after being approached by music director D. Imman with the film Seema Raja in 2018. [14]

However, both Senthil Ganesh and Rajalakshmi made their playback singing debuts together in early 2018, and both rose to prominence after crooning the sleeper hit song Chinna Machan for the film Charlie Chaplin 2 . [15] [16] [17] [18] He collaborated with another folk singer Rockstar Ramani Ammal and crooned the song Siriki for the film Kaappaan , which became popular among rural people. [19] [20]

He also appeared in the reality television show Mr and Mrs Chinnathirai with his wife in 2019. [21]

Personal life

Senthil Ganesh married fellow folk singer Rajalakshmi in 2012. [22] [23] In 2019, they spoke critically about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. [24]

Airtel Super Singer Junior Ithu Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal – is a reality TV show since February 2007 hosted by Vijay TV, a popular Tamil channel of the Star Network, and sponsored by Bharti Airtel. It is a singing talent hunt for the children of age group 6–15. This is the junior version of the Airtel Super Singer show, which premiered on 28 April 2006. Auditions are held in various parts of Tamil Nadu, India. The show attracts many kids from all over the state and rigorous multi-level selection procedures are done in order to select the contestants for the competition.

Nippon Paint Super Singer 6 was a 2018 Indian Tamil language Reality singing competition show, the sixth season of the Super Singer show, which aired on Star Vijay on every Saturday and Sunday at 19:00 (IST) starting from 21 January 2018 until 15 July 2018. Nippon Paint sponsored the season after Airtel discontinued its sponsoring. The show was hosted by Makapa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande. The Judges of the show were the popular playback singers Anuradha Sriram, P. Unnikrishnan, Benny Dayal and Shweta Mohan. The Grand finale was held on 15 July 2018 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai and was a live telecast through Star Vijay. Folk singer Senthil Ganesh emerged as the title winner of the show who also got a chance to sing in A.R.
