Severiano "Seve" Boris van Ass (born 10 April 1992) is a Dutch professional field hockey player who plays as a midfielder or forward for HGC and the Dutch national team. [1]

He is the son of Dutch field hockey coach Paul van Ass. [2] He participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics. [3] In June 2019, he was selected in the Netherlands squad for the 2019 EuroHockey Championship and was named the captain for the tournament. [4] They won the bronze medal by defeating Germany 4–0. [5]

Club career

Van Ass started playing hockey at Victoria, a field hockey club in Rotterdam. In 2008 he switched to HGC, [6] with whom he won the 2010–11 Euro Hockey League. In 2013 he returned to Rotterdam to play for HC Rotterdam, where he played for five seasons until 2018 when he returned to HGC. [7]

The Men's Hoofdklasse Hockey, currently known as the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of field hockey in the Netherlands. The league ranks third in the European league ranking table. The league was established in 1973, and before the league existed the champions of the several district played in a championship pool to determine the national champion.

The 2018–19 Hoofdklasse was the 46th season of the Hoofdklasse, the Netherlands' highest field hockey league. It began on 26 August 2019 and it will conclude with the third match of the championship final on 26 May 2019.

Alexander Cox, also known as Alex Cox, is a Dutch field hockey coach and a former field hockey player. He guided SV Kampong to the 2015–16 Euro Hockey League title and two successive Hoofdklasse titles in 2016–17 and 2017–18. He has also worked as an assistant coach with both the Netherlands men's and Netherlands women's teams. He was head coach of the Netherlands U21 team that won the 2017 Men's EuroHockey Junior Championship. Between 2018 and 2019, Cox served as head coach of the Ireland men. He is married to Marsha Marescia, the former South Africa women's international.
