Shabana Football Club, more commonly known simply as Shabana or sometimes Shabana Kisii, is a FKF Premier League club based in Kisii, Kenya.

History

The club was formed in 1980 by Kisii-based businessman Dogo Khan. Shabana was third in the 1987 Kenyan First Division with 50 points (behind champions Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards), earning qualification to the 1988 edition of the then equivalent of the CAF Champions League. [1] [2] They won the second tier division title in 2014.They were promoted back to the FKF Premier League after winning the Zone B of the FKF Division One. [3] It had nearly collapsed in 2006 when a dispute over its relegation from the Kenyan Premier League. [4] They were set to play in Nationwide League, the second level tier in Kenya, but refused to participate insisting they belong to the Premier League (who did not readmit them). As a result, the club did not participate any league in 2007. However the team regrouped and was renamed Gusii United Football Club, eventually returning to league football. Their home stadium is Gusii Stadium.On 28 October 2018, Shabana was upgraded to Kenya's second largest league The Kenya National Super League after defeating Mwatate on penalties the game that went full time 1–1 at Kasarani Stadium Nairobi. On 28 November 2018 Gilbert Selebwa was appointed head coach, assisted by Kanuli Rix. In October 2019, Gilbert Selebwa resigned. [5] Following the 2022/2023 NSL, Shabana emerged top of the League after edging out Kisumu All Stars on the final match of the season at a fully Packed Gusii Stadium earning them promotion to the Top tier League in Kenya, The Kenya premier League 2023/2024. The quarter-finals were played on 6−7 October, while the semi-finals and the final were played on 17−18 November and 21 November respectively, after the end of the 2012 Kenyan Premier League.

The 2013 FKF President's Cup is the 42nd season of Kenya's top domestic cup competition. It began on 20 July and ended on 17 November, with domestic broadcasting rights for the competition held by SuperSport.
