Shakil Ahmed SPP, BSP, BGBM, nswc, afwc, psc is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army, currently serving as Senior Directing Staff (Army-1) at National Defence College. Prior that, he was the General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). [1] Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant General of Army Headquarters. Before that he was the general officers commanding of 19th Infantry Division and area commander Ghatail area. Education

Shakil Ahmed was born on 19 December 1968 in Joypurhat District, East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. [4] He completed his postgraduate education in National Security and War Studies, and Strategic Studies and Defense Studies. [5] [6]

Career

Shakil Ahmed was commissioned in the Infantry Corps Bangladesh Army on 19 December 1988. [4]

Shakil Ahmed commanded the 99th Composite Brigade and 12th East Bengal Regiment. [7] He was the Chief Instructor and later commandant at the School of Infantry and Tactics. [7]

During Shakil Ahmed's tenure at Army Headquarter as AG he signed a significant deal on 'Bangladesh Military Contingent Agreement 2021' with Kuwait Army Assistant Chief of Staff Major General Khaled AHHM Al Qadri. [8] This deal will ensure Bangladesh Military Contingent would assist in Kuwait as part of Operation Rebuilding Kuwait (ORK), which in Bengali is known as Operation Kuwait Punargathan (OKP).

Shakil Ahmed was appointed as the director general of the Department of Immigration & Passports Office in September 2019. [9] He replaced Major General Muhammad Shohail Hossain Khan who was made chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board. [10]

On 18 February 2022, Ahmed was appointed as Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh replacing Major General Shafeenul Islam, [11] who was to retire from the army later that month. [12] Ahmed was the vice-president of Bangladesh Golf Federation and Kurmitola Golf Club. [7]

The Bangladesh Rifles revolt was a mutiny staged on 25 and 26 February 2009 in Dhaka by a section of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), a paramilitary force mainly tasked with guarding the borders of Bangladesh. The rebelling BDR soldiers took over the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana, killing BDR director-general Shakil Ahmed along with 56 other army officers and 17 civilians. They also fired on civilians, held many of their officers and their families hostage, vandalised property and looted valuables. By the second day, unrest had spread to 12 other towns and cities. The mutiny ended as the mutineers surrendered their arms and released the hostages after a series of staged discussions and negotiations with the government.

Aziz Ahmed SBP (BAR) is a retired Bangladeshi four star general who was the Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army from 25 June 2018 to 24 June 2021. He was succeeded by General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on 24 June 2021.

The 2015 Bangladesh–Arakan Army border clash took place between 25 August 2015 and 26 August 2015 in the Bandarban District, near the Bangladesh–Myanmar border, after several insurgents of the Arakan Army attacked members of Border Guards Bangladesh.

Mohammad Jahangir Alam is a Major General of Bangladesh Army. Currently serving as the Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), the military intelligence unit of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. He took over this position in October 2024. Prior to his current role, he was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 33 Infantry Division and the Area Commander of Cumilla Area.
