The Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh is the professional head of the Border Guard Bangladesh (abbreviated as BGB, previously Bangladesh Rifles). The current DG is Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui. [1] The first BGB chief was General Chitta Ranjan Dutta. [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Chitta Ranjan Dutta</span> Bangladeshi army general (1929–2020)

Chitta Ranjan Dutta Bir Uttom, also known as C R Dutta, was a Bangladeshi war hero who served as major-general of the Bangladesh Army. He was a key sector commander of the Mukti Bahini during the Bangladesh Liberation War. After independence, he served as the armed forces commander in Rangpur and later went on to become the first director-general of the Bangladesh Rifles in 1973.

Deaths along the Bangladesh–India border occur many times a year as result of people attempting to illegally cross into India from Bangladesh, for walking along the border, cross border firing and cattle smuggling. Bangladesh and India share a 4,096 kilometer border. To prevent smuggling and illegal migration from Bangladesh, the Indian Border Security Force exercises its controversial "Shoot-on-sight" policy. Under this policy, the BSF can shoot any person on site with or without cause. A large portion of the victims are cattle traders and farmers with land near the border. Brad Adams, stated that, "Routinely shooting poor, unarmed villagers is not how the world's largest democracy should behave."

Aziz Ahmed SBP (BAR) is a retired Bangladeshi four star general who was the Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army from 25 June 2018 to 24 June 2021. He was succeeded by General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on 24 June 2021.

Abul Hossain, ndc, psc, is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Before that, he served as military secretary to President Md Abdul Hamid and as Engineer-in-Chief at Army Headquarters, Commandant of Military Institute of Science and Technology, Chief Engineer of Dhaka City Corporation, Director of Special Works Organization and Director of Works and Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Army. Currently he is serving as General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant General of Army Headquarters. Before that he was the general officers commanding of 19th Infantry Division and area commander Ghatail area.

A K M Nazmul Hasan is a major general in the Bangladesh Army and Commandant of East Bengal Regimental Centre. Prior to that, he served as the Director General of the Special Security Force. Before that, he was the 24th Director General of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). He also served as the Director General of the Bangladesh Ansar and the Village Defence Party. He was General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 11th Infantry Division and Area Commander, Bogura Area.

Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui is a major general in the Bangladesh Army who is the incumbent director general of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to his promotion to major general, he served as the director of the Army Sports Control Board as a brigadier general.
