Jim Garrison American judge

James Carothers Garrison was the District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana, from 1962 to 1973. A member of the Democratic Party, he is best known for his investigations into the assassination of President John F. Shaw Center for the Arts

The Shaw Center for the Arts is a 125,000 square foot performing art venue, fine arts museum, and education center located at 100 Lafayette Street in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It opened in 2005. The Center includes the LSU Museum of Art, the LSU School of Art Glassell Gallery, the 325-seat Manship Theatre, classrooms, Tsunami, a rooftop sushi restaurant, and a park. Among other collections, the museum includes the largest assemblage of Newcomb Pottery in the United States.

Hurricane Katrina struck the United States in August 2005, causing over a thousand deaths and extreme property damage, particularly in New Orleans. The incident affected numerous areas of governance, including disaster preparedness and environmental policy.

The Paul J. Rainey Wildlife Sanctuary is a 26,000-acre (110 km2) refuge owned by the National Audubon Society in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. Established in 1924, this private Louisiana sanctuary is home to alligator, deer, muskrat, otter, geese and many other species. Because of the focus to maintain safe, secure and healthy habitats for waterfowl and other endemic wildlife, it is not open to the public, and no hunting or fishing is permitted within the Sanctuary boundaries. There are no roads to the Sanctuary, and boat access through the private canals is by permission only. It is currently managed by Audubon Louisiana, a state office of the National Audubon Society.

Trial of Clay Shaw

On March 1, 1967, New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison arrested and charged New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw with conspiring to assassinate President Kennedy, with the help of Lee Harvey Oswald, David Ferrie, and others. On January 29, 1969, Shaw was brought to trial in Orleans Parish Criminal Court on these charges. On March 1, 1969, a jury took less than an hour to find Shaw not guilty. To date, it is the only trial to be brought for the assassination of President Kennedy.
