The school was originally known as Wauwatosa Senior High School until the opening of Wauwatosa West High School in September 1960. The first graduating class of Wauwatosa East High School was in June 1962. Today, the school is often colloquially referred to as Tosa East.

The Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) is a high school athletic conference that was founded in 1927 and spanned from as far west as Hammond and Gary to South Bend/Mishawaka and Elkhart to the east and south to Plymouth. Since its start in 1927, a total of 32 separate schools have at one time called the NIC home. From its inception until 1963, the conference had been divided into East and West divisions. The West Division left to form the Northwestern Conference in 1963. With membership dwindling to 7 members by the 1970s, the conference added former members of the Northern Indiana Valley Conference to its ranks. Currently, every former NIVC member is now a part of the NIC except for South Bend Jackson, which closed in 1973, and South Bend LaSalle, which joined the NIC in 1977, but closed in 2001.
Dwight Eisenhower High School is a public high school located in Decatur, Illinois. The school serves about 1,046 students in grades 9 to 12 in Decatur Public Schools District 61. Students from this school were featured on The N's Student Body, a show on which students competed against other students from their crosstown rival, MacArthur High School, to see who could lose the most weight for a $25,000 grand prize. Eisenhower High School organizes its students into communities divided by class, and has instituted a mandatory school uniform policy along with MacArthur High School.

MHS is part of Macomb Community Unit School District 185, which also includes MacArthur Early Childhood Center, Lincoln Elementary School, Edison Elementary School, and Macomb Middle School. The school draws students from the towns of Macomb, Bardolph, and Adair. Macomb Middle School was built just south of Macomb High School and was completed in 2023.
